How do I remove spark plug seals?

I'm replacing them with new ones, but they won't budge, and I'm scared of damaging the aluminum.

Re: How do I remove spark plug seals?

If you're trying to get the spark plug out you need to use a spark plug socket and extension. Then a gap tool and torque wrench to put it back on

Re: How do I remove spark plug seals?

^read the title of thread. Come on, seriously.

Get a small pick, a pair of needle nose pliers with grippy jaws, and a small flathead screw driver. Just work your way around the outside of the seal and work em loose. Grab em with the pilers and pull. Eventually they'll come out, but they suck. Plan on trashing the old ones, but you shouldnt bother the valve cover at all. I think I may have even tapped the screw driver around with a hammer.... aluminum isnt that fragile

Re: How do I remove spark plug seals?

^^^ Exactly. I initially tried just pulling them out with a pair of needle nose and they just ripped. Then I just used a flathead screwdriver and popped them out, easy as pie. With the VC off that is.

Re: How do I remove spark plug seals?

I ended up tearing a 1 1/2 piece off one of the old drive belts and used it for leverage for the flathead. Made sure the flathead was as thin at the end as possible, and slipped it right under the seals. They are in there tight but not too tight.

Thanks for the help.
