post-brake job probs
TWO THINGS:
#1
well about two weeks ago i did my brake pads. I put in those AEM/NISSIN ones in and I did the seasoning thing and all that. Here's the deal
now when i brake there is a little click or a rub. i only notice it when my windows are down adn the radio is off. When i pu tit in gear and then reverse it sounds like a harmless little pop. as if the brake pads were stuck then released. then same thing happens when I cam at a full stop (in drive) and then let up on the brake.
i noticed in the DIY that it said to use the little plastic slip cover on the stock pads... I could fit it all on there so i left them out. My g/f's dayd says that's how he's always done/seen brakes dones... none of them had a little slip cover. I could probably fit the slip cover on after I wear the pads down a little... do you think that's the cause?
I also used brake pad grease on the back of the brake pad.
any thoughts on what this could be? the reason why i wonder is cause I dont recall hearing this on the stock pads.
#2
I was at my dealership the otherday and i was talking w/ a service advisor guy. the subject got to the rotors cause they offered the AEM big rotor upgrade (waaaay too expensive)
I mentioned that I was thinking about replacing the rotors myself (i already have them sitting in my room) He said he strongly reccommended against it. there was some type of presing that needed to be done for them to fit on there correctly. I don't know if that means a special tool to press the rotor back on ot what but he said that if it wasn't done properly that it could cause the berrings to screw up.
I thought this jsut meant that he wanted em to pay them to do it but he said they couldn't... htey could only do the AEM version cause that was approved. Naturally, the next question i asked was who i should have do it... he said to go to a performance parts installer and get them to do it that way they're liable when the berrings mess up.
what I wonder is do you think he was being over cautious? GREY-- how are your rotors adn pads doing? any probs or noises yet? It sucks that I bought the rotors and now i'm being told not to put them on myself... I have no idea of where a performance parts installer is. especially in the Austin area.
what do you think i should look under in the phone book? Auto repair?

well i couldn't fit the plastic pieces in... i tried believe me. i was lacking a fraction of a milimeter so i bet it will fit by now... jsut waiting for one of these weekends to paint the calipers and i'll do it then.
has anyone else expierenced this or have any clue what the prob is... if it's as simple as putting the plastic back in then I did a whole lot of typing for nothing

#1 The only thing that's different from the stock brakes are those little slip covers. That must be the problem. I used the two slip covers on the outside calipers. If you look at the diagrams on www.hondaautomotiveparts.com then you'll notice that they display one slip cover per pad. I wonder why my car had only two? Did yours come this way as well? Anyway, you'll need to loosen those bolts that tighten the caliper to get those slip covers on. I think you just rotated the caliper up and put them in that way, huh?
#2 Can you say BS! I think that they're messing with you. I read about an extra step that I didn't do when I installed my new rotors, but this step is just another safety check to make sure that the rotors are balanced. Do you think a shop is going to take the time to make sure brand new rotors are balanced? I don't think so. Anyway, my rotors and pads are fine. They don't make any noise, they stop great, I don't feel any vibration, and the steering doesn't pull to one side when I brake hard. In other words, it's perfect! Make sure to check out my DIY to see how I did it (if you haven't already). That reminds me, I was supposed to write up a review of the rotors and pads. Will do.
