power steering removal question

alright, I've looked at the DIY on here endless times but now the pictures from it are gone. :/

i already don't have power steering or A/C (i'm k-swapped) but the lines are just capped so it's not the easiest to turn and i'm worried about the longevity of the rack. i've got a t-fitting and a ton of odds and ends in my garage that i'm going to use because I can't justify spending the money on the aeroquip fittings or hoses, and i've already got a clutch fluid reservoir and can probably find some barbs in the garage too. it seems like a pretty easy process. has anyone done it with things aside from what the DIY suggests, or can a mod fix the pictures or does someone else have a picture of it done with the rack in our car?

Re: power steering removal question

in my integra i pulled the rack apart and stripped all the guts out where the lines go in so the fluid would flow easier and ran the lines to a reservoir. made it a lot easier to turn. then i just swapped in an old civic manual rack.

Re: power steering removal question

Well, looks like the links to the pics have changed, again. All the pics are still in my Gallery. It looks like they may be done moving stuff around so maybe I'll try to relink the pics later.

The Aeroquip fittings are overkill, and expensive. If you can get a loop to a breather the steering will be less stiff.

A couple weeks ago I noticed a leak around the rear fitting near the rack. Due to the configuration of the assembly and the firewall, it is not easy to fully tighten the rear piece of the assembly to the fitting at the rack. I tried to take it off to clean it and reinstall, but the only way I could remove it was to cut the hose. Since moving I seem to have lost any extra hose I had, so I just reinstalled with a direct loop with the piece of hose that was to the breather. It was tougher to turn than with the breather. I have since concocted a temporary assembly with the pieces I have.

I derived another assembly with a couple of sloped fittings that would be easier to install, but the sloped pieces are $20 each, so not anytime soon. And there's not a supplier around here that carries the performance parts, so there will be shipping too. One of these days...
