I have solved the door lock rattle on my 01 civic. I dunno if this has been covered but I know it has been an issue. This is how I solved the issue, what you choose to do with it is your choice. Over the weekend I installed new door speakers and while I had the panels off I decided to take a look at that annoying rattle, and this is what I came up with: the door locks are just screwed onto a threaded post, so I unscrewed them, went in the house and looked around to see what I could find to solve the rattle. I came across some old fabric that I used in my interior before, and was like hmmmm I wonder. Then it hit me if I could glue some fabric to the sides of the door lock it might take up the slack and add some cushion. So figured what the hell, the fabric was only going on the sides and if it didn't work I could just take it off and no one would ever know I messed up. Well after some careful cutting and gluing I tested it out and all I can say is no more rattles
I could explain all I did, but the attached pics should be self explanatory. Take a look and tell me what you think. Feel free to add comments, make suggestions, or ask questions.

I put up with that thing rattling for the last few months! I always thought it was that threaded post rattling against the door.. so after I put dynamat on the entire door and STILL had the rattling, I was like wtf and basically gave up on it! lol I never even thought that it was the plastic thing.

Hmm, I never had this problem. Great quick fix. I'm wondering about the other side of the lock, it probably is in direct contact with the plastic of the door panel, and may create a dry plastic on plastic rubbing sound everytime you lock and unlock w/ the power switch. What if instead, you grabbed the thinnest material that would work and applied it to the actual door panel where that part of the lock fits, meaning pad the perimeter of the slot opening. Ahh, anyways- hows it lock and unlock- completely fine?

^ if anyones reading this and is thinking you have to pull up on the lock to get it out, you have to remove the door panel and unscrew it from the rest of the locking setup.

Rattles suck. I have a rattle in my headliner since I bought the car... right above the passanger mirror. I stuffed foam in there and took care of it, but then I took my headliner out to do the red microsuade, and it all came out... put the headliner back in, but havent had time to re-foam it, and its super annoying with all this highway driving I've been doing.
Once again, nice fix.
