RSX-s exhaust
so....my spec 98 muffler finially died. it cracked at the flange, and split up the muffler. i started looking for a new one, and found a bunch of info on the rsx muffler. i ordered one, and got it yesterday. upon inspection, i noticed that the hangers are no where near the position they need to be. also, the inlet pipe to the muffler looks like it won't even clear the rear suspention. the guy at the exhaust shop has some fitting issues to deal with.....i'll post some pics later to show how it went....

ok i have some pics.....i just need to figure out how to post them.....
i called acura and priced one, (i get it for cost plus 10%) they wanted $385...hahahahahahahahaha
so i got one off e-bay for $80. install cost: $40. it sounds strange. i have full exhaust work done; manifold, high flow cat, and all the pipe in between. it sounds "hollow," but super quiet. (rember i had a muffler completely broken, plus i didn't mention that my primary o2 sensor had stripped out. exteremely loud at both ends) i am going to take it back to the shop, cause it (exhaust pipe) rattles at a certian rpm. about 3800-4000.

ok, I went and got mine installed today. I'm at work right now but I will post the pics later. Its nice, good on bottom with a bit of help n the midrange. not much on top but I'm on stock mid-pipe and resonator for now so that might improve when I get ready to mess with it some more. So far I would say its better then a cold air for power and only cost me $130 including shipping and having it installed.

Up until now my idea was to get a borla muffler and custom piping just cause i love the way borla systems sound, but this may be a good alternative, performance pending of course.

hmm I have mt type S exhaust sitting in the garage.. might think about selling it if it sounds and performs that great
OK
Here we go.
here is the new RSX mufler. I only instaled the axle back for now, the mid pipe is next when i get some more time and a little cash together.

The RSX flange is the wrong size for the civic mid-pipe so we found a flange that was the rigt spacing and my mufler guy Jeff oppened it up with his expander.

Here is a neat thing that I havent seen before. Jeff reheats the old weld to remove the stock flange on the RSX mufler. That way he can re-use the flange someday, which worked out for me cause thats how I got my new flange.

Here is the inside of the mufler inlet all cleaned and ready for the new flange.

We hung the RSX mufler and bolted in the new flange then we shock everything a bit to let it all find its natural position. Once everything was in place and aligned, Jeff tag welded the pieces together.

Here is the flange all welded and ready for final installation

Jeff measured the stock tailpipe and cut a new one out of larger tube to match the new larger mufler core. Using the stock RSX mufler hangers in the EM2 rubbers, the tailpipe aims exactly at the bumper cutout, its just a bit short. You could use a bolt on tip if you want but I like the cleaner and more subtle look of a welded plain steel pipe, less bling.

Jeff welded the tailpipe with the mufler on the car.

Here is the finished product with the car still on the lift. Yes thats a trailer hitch, its for my bike rack and its also the best anti-cop-attention device I have ever found.

More in a moment.

So now for a quick performance review.
Fit: Excelent, aside from all the custom stuff haha. Its a bit of work to get it on right but for around $60 its pretty damn good. It doesnt rattle or hit the swaybar at all and ground clearance isnt adversly affected.
Sound: Very quiet, like stock but a bit deaper. I have no clips but rest assured its neighborhood friendly.
Power: Nice, not mindbending but nice. It helps the bottom, very nice from 1-3k healthy in the 3-5k and not bad in the 5-redline. Its not amazing at high revs but that might have to do with my stock mid-pipe.
All the way around, I would say this is an easy and highly recomended mod. i havent tried any other systems but given how many of them seem to have sort of mediocre reviews, this one seems to be a nice alternative. Like everything I do to my car, it passes the stealth test with flying colors, nobody will even know you have changed anything unless they know 7thgens well or you tell them. Even my mom likes the sound.
