Breaking in Period?
Breaking in Period?
What's the deal with the "breaking in" of a new Honda Civic... I bought a new 06 with 26 miles on it the other day.
Anybody got ideas on improving performance on the 140hp, 1.8 liter, 16-Valve, i-VTEC 4Cyl. Engine w/ manual tranny?
Peace & Love,
kk

well i heard some cars you can give them hell..and it dont mess up! but a break in is like 5ooo miles. and you arent supposed to go over 60mph til then! but if you got a warranty, tear it up! my friend has a 06 SI and i swaer he redlines all the time..burnouts, racing, and it's got a 100K miles warranty..

Dont use the cruise control, don't redline it, but certainly dont baby it. Motors these days are run at the factory and don't generally need major break in, just getting the rings to finish seating and what not. Just drive it.
For my cars "break-in" (first 1000 miles) i always kept the rpms changing, ie i never went toll way driving or major high were i'd be at the same rpm for a long time, so i did mostly city/rural driving, i didn't baby it and i didnt redline it, but i would keep the rpms ranging so the rings could seal correctly etc and it would take some what of a beating but no redline. I think it went over well 12000 on car no problems... still young and early.
IMO, there isnt such thing as in a break in. WHen the car rolls off the plant, it is run through a session and that's enough to seat everything in. If they aren't, theres probably something wrong. And with newer cars, there is so much technology that there arent as much malfunctions as before. Thats still just my opinion though
