Does it sound like it comes from under the hood or under the dashboard or somewhere else? could it be the sound of a relay operating? We need more specific info.

I'm also experiencing this same problem. I've been to two different dealerships and they have both hooked the car up to their computer and find nothing wrong with the car. They have told me that the noise is comming from the starter relays and is "normal". I really doubt that it is normal since it seems to interfer with the starting of the car at times. Not every time but ocassionally it will last 3 to 4 seconds before the engine turns over. If you find out any more info on this could you please share.

Is it possibly static electricity being discharged when you slip you key in? or is it once you turn the ign switch and the engine begins to turn over?

It happens when you turn the key. My wife tells me the car would not start at all this morning. She had to turn the key back then try again befor it would start

I'd bring it in to the dealership and tell them not to call until it was fixed, and tell them that "Could not duplicate" is not an option. Your car is too new for 'no starts'.
