Greddy turbo for a 07 Si
I was wondering if the Greddy turbo is really worth it, I mean just 53HP for $3295 that sounds off to me. So if anyone has the turbo please let me know if its worth it also i heard 53HP is all the turbo that motor can that. Is that true? please help...
well although some will disagree with me on this IMO a turbo kits from greddy for most civics is pitiful to say the least...here is a site i always recommend just cuz they have various diff. kits for various diff. cars.
Turbo Kits for Acura, BMW, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Lexus & VW
well actually i just saw that his is for a FG civic so that site may not be as helpful...im not even completely sure of who all offers kits for the new civics besides greddy
first off what are your hp goals? your budget? these are gonna be the two most important questions

I have about 5G to play with and all I want is to be around 300HP. But here is the funny part I sent Greddy a email and this is what i got back...
You will not be able to get 300 whp safely on a stock motor. You will need to put stronger internal components in the motor to reliably support the power... Let me know if you
have any further questions or are ready to order.
Thanks!
Regards and keep tuning...

Last time i checked the 06 and 07 Si have the Honda 2000 motor in it and thats a pretty good and strong motor, so is this guy trying to tell me I have a weak motor? He clearly wrote my motor can not take a 100HP gain but what about a 75HP or even 80HP gain..what you think... funny i always heard the Si motors can take alot of upgrades

.... that guy is some "tech support" deusch bag and dont know hats he's talking about...all honda motors respond VERY well to boost especiall the k series mostly i think cuz of the larger displacement....ive seen MANY dyno graphs of civic si's w/b16a2 making over 400whp on stock internals and have had such a setup for a couple years....the MAIN component that will make or break ANY turbo setup is a GOOD TUNE! cuz unless you just buy the cheapest of the cheapest turbo failure and such shouldnt happen...here is one example of a boosted civic from hondata.com...
260 wheel hp at 10 lbs boost.
Specifications:
* Built and tuned by Erick's Racing
* Full body full interior Civic hatch
* Stock GSR engine and gearbox
* Turbocharged and intercooled with 10 lbs boost
* HKS Boost controller
* 300 Crank horsepower
* BF Goodrich Comp TA drag radials
* Stock fuel pump
* Hondata Stage 2b engine computer upgrade
* Erick's Racing fuel pressure regulator
* RC 440 injectors
* 30 + Highway mpg.
At Palmdale drag strip (2600') the car ran 12.48 @118 mph. This car was run exactly as it is driven every day, including the tires.

and if you dont want to take my word for it how about co founder/co owner of Full Race..... and if you dont know what Full Race is check out their website....Full-race.com...anyways Geoff Racier is the co founder/ co owner and is very helpful...i havent bought A SINGLE product from the company and he has repsonded to well over 20 emails i have sent him regarding turbo charging..here is one of his emails:
Geoffs response:
"Hey Chad --
Thanks very much for your kind words. I have a vested interest in this
stuff and I am only too happy to help out anyone getting started.
If you are interested in getting into the automotive field, the TX school I
recommend looking into is the school of automotive machinists. This is one
of the best places to learn machine work, a great skill and one that is
becoming increasingly rare.
The stage 1 a/c kit works incredibly well for almost every application,
particularly the B16A. This kit will easily make it into the deep 12 sec
range and be completely reliable.
You definitely do not need to sleeve the block, you should never use a block
guard, and you definitely do not need forged internals.
The setup I recommend is:
Hondata or Neptune
Walbro 255 high pressure intank pump
RC 750cc high impedance injectors
ITR cams and ITR intake manifold
Stock fuel rail, stock fuel pressure regulator, stock fuel filter
Stock distributor, stock ignition
Stock bottom end
Stock Honda Head gasket or Cometic Thick gasket to lower compression
ARP Head studs
Competition Clutch stage 4 (I can get you a great deal on this)
If you can find a cheap ITR trans that is a great idea. Unfortunately these
are pretty difficult to come across, so rebuilding your b16 is another
option. Beefier axles are not necessary, just use OEM Honda (not crappy autozone axles). 3" Thermal exhaust is a great exh, we can get you excellent pricing on that. Lastly, and most importantly, I recommend you go to a good tuner. Tony Palo, the owner of T1RD is one of the best tuners in Texas and the country. I strongly recommend you get him to tune the car!
Hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to email me
back"
in another email that i did not save i saked him at what power level do you usually need forged internals for a civic....he said around 300+whp if its a daily driver and you want many trouble free years.....
like i said one of the biggest things your gonna run into is that since the FG has only been around a little more than a year or so the companies that REALLY do their R&D (such as full race) have yet to release a kit specifically for it....full race does have a k series kit but its for the RSX and 02-05 Civic si(EP3) but there suppose to be working on a kit....my first and fore most advice for anyone looking to boost for the first time is READ, READ, READ!! Find out as much as you can even if your not doing it yourself you want to know how everything works why and why not.....here are two books recommended by geoff raicer co founder and co owner of Full Race...Maximum Boost by corky bell and Street Turbocharging by mark warner...best wishes on whatever you decide and keep us posted.....keep the questions coming

cuz he said 300whp which is alot diff. believe it or not from 300 crank hp....so he actually isnt as big as a deusch as i thought...oops
but by honda 2000 you mean s2000 no they dont....the s2000 has a f20 motor(f is the series and 20 is the liters....2.0) and 06+ si have a k20z i believe is the engine code...but yes the k series motor is a very strong motor....just to show how strong one company turbo charged a rsx and made around 600whp!! on STOCK INTERNALS! Now to keep things in perspective that motor would not last long with that sort of stress on stock rotating assembly.....on of the biggest keys to keeping a boosted motor running strong is having a proper a/f)air to fuel) mixture although having to much fuel isnt good(rich a/f mixture) its a lean fuel mixture that will cause detonation and destroy parts...and since most Si's have a rather high compression this adds to the possibility of detonation when adding boost...on way the fix that w/o changing pistons is by retarding the timing by typically 3-4 desgrees per pound of boost which decreases the threshhold for detonation.....so really having forged pistons isnt a must for lots of boost but rather a low compression ratio like 8.5:1, 8.8:1 (compression ratio is basically telling you how many parts air to fuel....8.5 parts air to 1 part fuel...someone please correct me if im getting this confused or wrong) and so on.....im not postive on the compression on the new si but my 2000 civic si has a compression of 10.1:1 if my memory serves me right and although that might not sound like a big diff. between whats ideal for boosting it REALLY is a pretty big diff. but even with that compression you could get away with running 12psi daily w/ a good tune and have years of no problems...of course that depends on how hard you drive a car but thats true even if its n/a
Hey thank you so much for the info that gives me alot to think about......I knew the greddy turbo was not worth it, I guess there will be a better turbo coming soon ( I hope ) till than i guess i will do the base stuff (cold air-intake etc.....) thanks again.
Feel safe at night, sleep with a paramedic.
