Cutting the shifter

Can anyone explain how to shorten the shifter in a 2002 Si?

We just want it a little shorter to give it a sportier feel.

There should be short shift kits on the market for this car. There are for most cars and since its a few years old Im sure one has been developed.

Dont go cutting it yourself as it can be rather dangerous if you cut it too short.

This place is generally on the ball with releasing short shift kits for just about any kind of car, and they should have the 2006 Civic in soon. You could probably modify the 05 kit, but for best fit I'd wait till they get the 06 kit in.

shifter

Another great source would be any tuner magazine. Because the Honda Civic Si is so popular, many fans have designed kits to fit specific models. I recommend Import Tuner Magazine; they frequently have articles on Honda Civics.

Do not attempt to cut the shifter yourself. That is what they make B&M short shifters and stuff for.......

Its easy to cut it yourself and if you know what you're doing there is no reason to spend money.
Sounds like he does want a kit though, in which case you really should get one that is made for your exact model car.

I haven't bought the kit just yet, because i am waiting to pay off the loan as quick as possible before i make any modifications. But Buddy Club is a quality product, and almost all of their parts are used on their race EP3's!

If you cut it.. Good luck.. the shift **** will just spin in circles and will be loose which means - Missed gears..

If you cut it properly it wont spin in circles. Many people cut the shifter and know how to do it, its not just a matter of getting a hacksaw and chopping it off and leaving it at that

yea... if you either re-thread it or get a set screw type shift ****(almost all aftermarket *****...) it will work.. BUT you have to realize that a short shifter isn't just shorter.. the fulcrum is moved to change the mechanical advange... the shifter a lot of times is the same length but the fulcrum ishigher up so it seems to be shorter wich shortens the throw a great deal

So you actually feel a difference when driving?
How does the length of the stick have an effect on the length of the gear changes?
