Alpine unit won't turn on.
Alpine unit won't turn on.
Not sure what I may have done wrong while installing it, but I'm frustrated as f***.
I searched the forum and have not found a solution.
The guy who owned my car prior to me...for some stupid reason cut the wires to from the factory harness and connected his tape player too it. Instead of just paying 15 bucks for the harness that hooks up to it.
My problem is that I am attempting to install a new radio (old one from my old civic). An alpine 9833. I did everyting, but it is not turning on.
I think it probably has something to do with the ground wire. I did not directly connect the one that is coming from the car into the aftermarket harness, for alpine.
Should I cut the wire and merge it into the old harness...by cutting the black, ground wire on the alpine harness and connecting them together? Will that work?
Or if there is a way to pull out the wire from my alpine harness and then insert the black one that is coming out of the car, into the area where the other black wire was?
If I connect the power, battery, and ground wires together do I need to cut them away from the little metal tip, or can I just wrap the wire around the metal tip?
Please help, frustrated as a mother... and I don't have the cash the shell out 65-100....Especially when I already did most of the work.
(sorry about any errors in spelling, I am late for work.

was the tape player still in there? if so, just cut those wires and connect from there. You can cut and butt since you won't be needing that again and it should be the same colors. If you really need a ground, there is one at the back of the first piece you take off to access the three bolts underneath the radio.
So I managed to get my HU to turn on. It was the "back up" fuse that was messed up.
Only problem is that my radio is not working right.
I can turn it on/off and I can switch between tuner and Cd. Also I can Eject a cd...but only when the radio is off. And...I can make the screen go into "black mode," where the display disappearrs. However, that is all I can do.
I can't make the volume any lower/higher, I can't play Cd's, I can't tune to different stations...
All I get is a beep...and nothing happens.
Anything I can do?
I tried reseting it, but that didn't do anything...
F***
I don't want to have to pay a hundred or so dollars to get this looked at..must be something I can do.
