getting fed up with alpine and MP3
Okay this is getting stupid. For some reason, alpine decks have some kind of problem playing mp3. This all started when my new alpine only a year old starts skipping. it gets worse as you move to the end of the cd for some reason. Now i even went so far as using different burning software and restoring my entire OS so i can burn with exact conditions from a year ago when they used to work. this did not help. so off that deck went to repair. still have 2 more weeks. i even tried different brand, tdk, imation, and now using philips which used to work. all very hi quality cd brands.
so now i thought hmm well lemme goto best buy and test out some cds. i brought newly burnt, old from 6 months ago, and store bought regular cd. i tried a few of the older alpine and also some of the newer ones, i was very surprised that the mp3 cds were skipping very badly! some of them were even worse than mine. instead of just a skip, it would actually make hiccup sounds or static, some even stopped playback for a second and moved back to a random song! can someone explain this? is alpine just really bad at playing back mp3, or just the decoder breaks easily? i only found one alpine that didnt skip and it was the big $600 one with biolite. i tried some of the pioneer and kenwood decks, not a single skip at all with any of my cds (even the scratched ones). So im at a loss. I guess im gonna wait til my deck gets fixed, try it out, and then start looking for a different one that i can actually listen to music with. very disappointing.

i have the cda 9856, and from what i have noticed that if i burn an mp3 cd by using other programs (especially roxio software), the cd will skip and sound static'y when u go further through the tracks. so i switched to burning my mp3 cd's with "Nero 6 Ultra Edition" and no more skipping at all

no its not newer models only. mine is a year old, i even tried on my friends from 2 yrs ago. 5 seconds wow that used to be a problem for pioneer way back when the first mp3 deck came out. these are all issues that a company needs to work out. there is no excuse for this kind of thing. pioneer worked out all the issues years ago. there is nothing it wont play, and the mp3 seek is like a regular cd.
looks like we have a winner here. just installed nero 7 demo, burned mp3 cd, went out to try last track and not a single skip or hiccup from the few minutes i listened. i need to play the whole thing to be sure. also does it matter if you do "track at once" or "disc at once" the difference is track at once turns off laser after each song vs leaving it on for the whole cd. i did disc at once when i made it...

I've never had any problems with mp3s on my alpine decks. I have used nero, windows media player, winamp, napster, itunes, clonecd....no problems.

are only your old cds skipping or is it the new ones? Sometimes when you leave burned cds in your car, the heat can damage some of the data on the cheaper cds. The laser on the deck my have trouble reading the damaged date, hence skipping.
I use to have the same problem with my kenwood. After a couple of months in the heat, my burned cds would skip. I just solved it by burning another cd. Then again i left my cds on my sun visor, which is probably the worst place to put cds.
I have a carputer now, so no more cds for me. I would suggest putting your cds away from direct UV light and Heat.

alpine
i have the alpine 9853 installed in my car, its one of the more expensive alpines, markets around 499, but i havent had a single problem with it so far and it's been in my car for over a year, it only skips on cds i've scratched.

i keep my cd in the back seat pocket so it never sees sun. and those old cd from a year ago still play fine on my comp or standalone dvd player. but yea to answer your question, newly burnt cds are also skipping.

Whoever needs nero PM me I can send you the install files when I get home. I burn mp3 cds with no problem such as skipping and such. But you can also download it from programs like limewire illegally and download a serial crack maker thingy so you can generate your own serial numbers thats what I do lol.

update guys, i have my old deck back and it still skips like crazy. all they did was clean the laser which i guess was worth it for free. oh and stupid best buy they told me if they cant fix it by sending it in, they will give me a new deck both times when i bought the deck and just 2 weeks ago. then i go in and they said no we can only send it out for repair, you never get a replacement. so thats pretty dumb cause they lied to me just so i buy the plan. well anyway i have nero 7 now and it works great in the alpine, only one skip every few songs maybe, hardly any problem like before.. im glad i found a solution cause that deck just looks and sounds so good.

thought i would post a final update here. this is really dumb to have to do, but i finally found a combo that plays on this alpine without any skips. its using nero 7 software and TDK cds. ive burnt two cds and listened through all the tracks, not a single skip.

well at least you got it working for now, but you shouldn't have to go threw all that to play mp3's on a headunit, i had that same problem the exact same day i installed the one i had bought (9855), so for me, alpine headunits are out. it was my first and last experience with them.
