Head swap

looking to boost my 04 d17a2 is there a better head to use when boosting? the stock head will not last because of the valve train is this true?

i dont think u have many options. a1 or a2, then u replace the parts inside it

get the crower valve train, boost cam, and ARP d16z head studs.

I heard the acura head will fit and hold up to boost this from a guy who works at honda in Omaha,NE is this true?

nope... the only 2 heads that you could put on your motor is the d17a1 or d17a2 head.

thier are a few threads on possible head swaps. the a2 is the better head because there is an aftermarket for it. I made a 5 paragraph post on why other d series heads would not fit, in one of the head swap threads. and no way a acura(b-series) head would hit either. a2 stock handels boost well. when built even better, just reccommend ARP studs before you start boosting.

can I use the search to find this old tread yes or no? do I have to rebuild the whole head or just replace the head bolts want to be able to drive this car to KC or on trips not put it on a trailer.

how much boost do you plan on running? I would say anything over 12psi upgrade the valve train and cam. Anythign under that jsut get new head studs. I drove 9psi daily on a stock head with ARP studs for a long time, before I took off the boost.

will never run over 10psi the only track we have is 1/8 mile I will never be fast but will be fun to drive boosted and a geo will not bet my civic.This is the first small motor I have built only v8's before this.civic best and funest car I have drove.

yeah i was in teh same shoes as you. I had an 87 GTA with a built motor before my civic. but boost at 10psi and your fine stock on a good tune.

Thank you for all your help! now to fix the rod prob this motor is week in a lot of spots but can be fixed with time and money lots of money will be fun to drive after i'm done though. Thank you again for not treating me like a noob

its cool man, and yeah the d17 is pretty weak in alot of areas. but the stock motor can handel boost very well on a good tune. I threw nitrious at it, turbo charged it and still runs great. if your intrestd in a ful lturbo setup let me know i got one for sale with all the electronic upgrades you need for $1500 shipped.

I would love to buy it but have to get my kids set for school rigt now will pm you to see if you still have it when I get the money! What kit is this and does it have fmu or the aem ecu.

The valve train has nothing to do with how much boost you run. Running higher rpms is what puts stress on the valve train.
