changed Spark Plugs and now i smell gas
like the title said, i changed the plugs in my car and then now i smell gas when i run the engine.
i got platinum plugs NGK i think was the brand name, anyways, i was under the impression that i didnt need to check the gap on platinum plugs. my first assumption was that the plugs were loose (i torqued them according to spec to use my shiny new torque wrench), and when double checked they were all good and snug. nothing was cross threaded i dont think, they felt nice and smooth going in. my next guess was that it just wasnt burning the fuel properly, which leads me to plug gaps. does anyone know what the gaps are supposed to be set at for a 2001 1.7 litre vtech SOHC engine? check engine light came on immediately, but the code reader is in the mail (god bless e-bay and half price brand name code readers!)
any help would be great, or a link to a site with spark plug gaps so i can double check that i didnt get the exception to the rule. thanks!

.044" is what the gap should be.
What some ngk plugs come pre-gapped at.

If the car drives fine and doesn't stumble or anything, i wouldn't worry much.
