Fuel filter confusion
Fuel filter confusion
Hey guys:
Tried the search feature but now I am more confused...I recently bought a fuel filter canister (no.12) in hondapartsdeals.com/electrical-exhaust-heater-fuel/ website. Cannot post links still...newbie still...
When I read the fuel filter threads, it is stated that it should not be changed? This one seems to be in the fuel rail, not in the fuel tank?
Oh man...
Please help...

the fuel filter is in the fuel tank, attached to the fuel pump. Unless your fuel pressure drops or you need to replace the pump, leave the filter alone. at least that is what honda says. according to them, they are "lifetime filters". I think thats bullshit, eventually the contaminants in the fuel will clog the filter. But I did mine at 100K miles, spent about $40 on the filter from honda, installed it, went to start the car and it wouldnt start. Fuel pump died. Dont know why, but it would probably still work if I hadnt of changed the filter.

that is most likely part of the emission system. the actual fuel filter is in the fuel tank. look under fuel tank and you will see the fuel filter in there.
it is number 1 under the fuel tank section.

ok could someone take a pic of the canister you guys bought?
and also could someone show me a pic in the maual about the fuel filter being in the tank with the fuel sending unit?
just curious here cuz i have a feeling that canister is the fuel filter. i have replaced fuel filters in fords and some acuras and mitsubishis and all are practically the same. one fuel line going into the fuel filter and one line going out of the filter and you just get a special tool to expand the oring in the lines and the line just pops off of the fuel filter and it comes off. the canister fuel filter should be in the fuel lines close to the fuel tank.
so if i could see a pic of that " canister" you guys are talking about it would help alot.
ive also been reading on the workshop manual and it says that you would have to disconnect the fuel lines off of the fuel filter to get it off and it is located close to the fuel tank.

if you pull up the rear sear, there is a metal cover with 4 screws holding it in place and underneath it is I believe it was a 5-pin connector and a single fuel line. you remove that line and connector and then remove the big locknut holding the fuel pump assembly on. once removed the fuel pump, filter and regulator assembly come out as one.
here is the pic from hondas site.
it is number 1

in SUMMATION:
unless you're having one of the following, LEAVE IT ALONE:
- fuel pressure issues
- the urge to dick around with the fuel system
- SUPER BAD mpg (talking 10-12 mpg)
- fuel cutoff/sender problems
- emissions/fuel system problems
ha I hate the ford 4.6L design and love the simplicity of it at the same time.
inline filter
bolted on fuel sender unit
easy fuel rail replacement
quick injector changing.
but the gas tastes like ***...but it smells so good....
