Clearance Issues (Maxrev ppl please help)
Clearance Issues (Maxrev ppl please help)
Hey all, i've started my install everything went pretty smooth until this point...has anyone elts had clearance issues with this manifold??
For starters, the wastegate does not clear the hood, and as you can see in the pics below the turbine itself does not clear the fan shrowd or the center brace?
I cannot even get the turbo + manifold to sit on the studs due to this issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..is this a revhard manifold?
Sitting as close as it will let me:

Left Fan shrowd clearance issue:

Center brace clearance issue:

Where did you buy that manifold from? Try asking the place/person you bought it from.
To me it looks like it's custom and poorly designed. That or it's not even for a D17 setup....

I would be scared to do that. After letting off of the gas from full throttle the engine is going to snap forward and if you have it that close, and without the shroud, it may hit a fan blade.
Probably not, but I would be scared to try.

I have the dezod kit and have the same clearance issues. The maxrev and dezod kits look extremely similar...maybe they're using same supplier?
Anyway, I had to trim the fan shroud to get it to clear the compressor housing. As for the center brace, I was going to cut it too, but was able to get the manifold/turbo/downpipe assmebly in without cutting. The car got scraped up pretty badly during installation. Try taking off the upper radiator support braces while u install the manifold. That way, u can pull the radiator and fan shroud toward the front of the car for some clearance. Position the compressor housing a little to passenger side of the center brace so it pushes on the fan shroud while u wiggle the manifold on to the studs.
I also had to notch the upper radiator support, but I had a merged dumptube.
My kit is not installed yet...ran into problems w/ the charge piping (going to have to cut some of the pipes) and the downpipe did not mate to the exhuast. Dezod is going to send me a new version of his downpipe and extension.
Also, do u have an aftermarket carbon fiber hood or are u stock? When I did my turbo mockup I never tried to close the hood. Hope mine will fit.
Can u take pics of your whole kit. Just curious to see how different it is from mine.

i had to bang my radiator core support out of the way to clear my turbo. i used the dezod EL manifold and had to rock the motor backwards to get everything in, and it definately slams into the fan but it's pretty far from the blades, so i dont worry about it.

autozone, oreilly's, pepbpys, whoever.. should carry slimline fans. The have them in universal packages. You slide these zip ties kinda things through the radiator and the fan straps to it on the other side. It works really well, clears some free space and flows more air than stock. That helps with the turbo/manifold/downpipe clearance. Seeing as that the dezod kit and the maxrev are pretty simular in design, you ran into the same problems I did kinda. My wastegate didnt clear my hood either.. it was actually jus the vacuum bolt at the top that was hitting. Is this is whats happening or is the wastegate itself hitting? If not you could just shave down the top of the bolt, if there is one ( idont know which wg you are using..) You might be able to shave off some of the flange for the wastegate.. make sure you take the turbo off, you dont want dust and debri getting in there. You could adjust the height of your hood too if necessary. I find the easiest way to get the assembly in/out is to take the front bumper cover off. Then remove the rubber/metal brackets holding the ac condensor and radiator from moving. Its a total of 4 brackets (2 on the radiator/2 on the condensor). You can then rock the condesor forward a lil bit (not too hard though, you dont want to break anything). then you can rock the radiator forward some too (be careful with that too). I used a large wrench to hold it back and dropped the assembly in place. It has minimal clearance but it works and no vibration/hitting or anything like that.
First thing I would do is get those new fans. the arent expensive, maybe $30 a piece. You will have to remove your radiator and rewire the plugs for the new fans though.
Im also using a koyo radiator which is much thicker than stock, those fans help with clearance alot there are less than half the thickness of stock. Good luck.

I have the maxrev it. I when i installed it i had to trim the fan shroud back a little. The wg does not clear the hood when shifting and you will see a little dent on your hood because of this... But mine has been like that for almost 4 years now. My plan is to get some 35mm wg flanges and do some rerouting, i plan to get a carbon fiber hood one day.. . . I also installed some felx a lite fans too, wich provides enough room for the turbo ***. and more cooling....

Our V2 manifold design is VERY similar to the MAXREV deisgn, but is different. Our V3 is vastly different...............
The reason why, is because you have to come up and over to clear the clutch slave cylinder. A decent sized T3/T4 will make the D17 worth while boosting, and the D17 is a son of a pup on ANY clearence. So it does not leave you with many options to work with needless to say.
Not only that, there is only one or two ways to route the charge piping, and all.........

I'd say hack away any shround fins that get in the way so long as the housing won't hit the fan itself, section and flatten the core support at the spot where its closest to the housing, then either remove or loosen the 4 bolts holding the turbo to the manifold so that you can rock the manifold onto the head OR remove a stud or 2 from the block and use bolts (and lockwashers) instead.
When we did mine (HKS) we left the turbo loose on the manifold then kind of 2 step rocked the manifold into place. Make sure that your DP fits in the hole thats left... we also had to put the DP in place before we dropped the mani/turbo in.

happened with me too. got a slimmer electric fan. solved the issue. now as for the wastegate and the hood issue. thats a new one. mine worked fine there. i also have the maxrev
