window tint...need help asap
i want to change my tint to a lighter shade. it is illegal right now, and it is not worth the hassle. anyway, the local shops want an arm and a leg to strip it, so can someone tell me the most painless way to strip it myself before i have them re-tint. thanks!
i had to take off my tint which was professionally done because i was pulled over.. the BEST way to do it is with a razor blade and WINDEX.. u should be able to peel most of it off anyways if u get a corner that hasn't ripped...
OK, from a former tinter.
Buy a spray bottle. Fill the bottle up with a little soap. A squirt will do. Fill the rest with water.
Buy a bunch of new razor blades.
1. Spray the entire area with water.
2. Start peeling with your blade until you can pull a piece off.
3. Pull all the dark film off.
4. Wipe down the area below the glass to keep water off the interior.
5. Get a new blade.
6. Spray the whole glass, soak it down.
7. Using a new blade, scrape the glue off. It will ball up and come off easily. Plus it will be wet and not adhere to anything.
8. Change blades often, dull blades will scratch the glass.
9. When all the glue is off, then use Windex to clean the glass.
10. A trick is to buy a plastic putty knife and push the rubber molding down on the inside of the window, this will give you more room to work on without nicking the rubber.
11. Remember to use a lot of water, but keep it off the interior. Tape a towel to the door panel.
When you are fast, it will only take 5 minutes per window.
DO NOT DO THIS ON A WINDOW WITH DEFROSTERS!

I had to strip the tent on one of my previous cars because it was too dark. I found that if you peel the tint real easy, most of the glue, if not all of it, will come off with the tint. I got lucky and had that happen on one full window. For the others, I just pulled the tint off, saturated a rag with gasoline and rubbed it over the window. Then, little by little, scraped the glue with a razon blade. My back window was so faded that it met the legal specs. So, I don't know what to ya about doing that window except to set aside a good amount of time for it.
I got my tints done at the shop, and the fools tinted over the defroster cables, after the tints were installed I lost a high percentage of the radios reception. Is it possible that the antenna is banged up?!
How would you go about removing the tint by the defrosters? If you could tell me I'd highly appreciate it.

The tint places closed down two months after they put my tints on too.

Just found out since they gave me warranty [dont know what kind waranty this is called, lol. ] went back to complain, and found a porno XXX emporium instead.
hehe
The thing is.. if the tint is on the defroster... then it kinds bakes onto the defroster, correct? Making it virtually impossible to take off without screwing it up left and right. eeek!! In any event, does anyone know how to take that part off without worrying about voiding the 'HONDA warranty' on the defrosters? BTW did you guys know that by DIY clearing out your headlights, you void the headlight warranty? lol.
I think that when I remove the tint of the defroster & antenna wires, I should be getting the radios reception just as was when new.
