Need a new motor, don't know what to do!!

First off, I want to say, I've searched my *** off and I'm still really confused, so just in case this has already been beat to death, sorry, but this is the only way I know how to get a straight answer.

I have an 03 Civic EX. I'm pretty sure my main bearing is shot since it sounds like there's marbles bouncing around in the bottom end. So obviously I need a new motor.

I "could" put the stock D17A2 back in, which I may do, but that's no fun.

I have the financial means to go with a K series. But there are SO many options, and really it seems like A LOT of work. I won't be doing the swap, I called a shop and they said they'd do it for 600-700 for the labor.

I have no idea what K series motor to go with. The K20A2 is by far the most expensive. What other K series are the "best bang for the buck". I would really rather not spend 8 grand. I've found a complete engine kit for $5600 at http://www.jdmenginescorp.com/index....products_id=11
but I'm not sure how much more I'll need to do the swap. I've looked at the list of parts on the DIY for the swap but don't know what comes with this package and what doesn't.

After the K20A2, what would be the next best K series, approximately how much can I get it for, and where is the best place to look for engines? I feel like I'm kind of strapped for time as my car is bound to take a dump on me VERY soon. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!

actually the K20A (type R motor) is the most expensive
possible K motors:
K20A
K20A2 (type s)
K20A3 (base rsx/7th gen si)
K24A2 (tsx motor)
K24A3 (CRV motor)

(this is a partial list)

i would gat a TSX motor. no use in getting a k20a3 when u could get a k24a3/4 for the same price. The k20a and a2 are good motors too but i want that extra .4 liters of displacement.

you can find the A3 out of a base RSX or out of an Ep hatch. There the cheapest and usually pretty easy to find. I know there are some on ebay. But one thing that u should keep in mind is if your going to swap you will need alot more than just the motor and tranny to swap, doing a swap will nickle and dime you to death.

good price for the k20a2 iv found its $3700... but thats just motor and tranny. im doin the swap right now.but im doin the k20a(aka JDM type R ) if u go to the section with motor swaps. tells u everything u need. cause u need other parts to put this motor in. the 5800 is not the whole kit. you also need mounts...hoses from diff years.... ummm if u go to hasport.com has everything listed there for u or also was a very good thread in the swap section of this form. so ontop of price of motor and tranny hmm prob like another 2-3k. but thats me just guessin pricing.

Get the K24A2. Best bag for your buck. Seen them go for 2g, and then find yourself a 5 speed transmisison for like 5 bills. So $2500 and you got yourself a complete swap

Those prices sound a lot more like it. Where's the best place to shop for this?? I've searched a bunch of forums and I'm not finding much.

And LiveBait, I'll get back to you if I can find an engine

actually you dont have a complete swap. dont be misinformed that once you have the motor and tranny then you're good to go. you have to buy LOTS of extras in order to make the K swap work. you'll need new motor mounts, ECU, harness, new radiator, hoses/clamps, and other components if you wan to keep your A/C. thats just the beginning of the list. IMO i would expect you to spend upwards of $5000, unless you do the install yourself.

If I were you and wasn't looking to spend too much on the motor I would just get a K20A2 and call it a day. But if money wasn't a big factor I would get the K20A3 and boost it or get a K24 bottom with a K20A2 head.

This line is the only line that caught my attention out of your post mainly.. Personally feel that price is heavily underrated for a shop's labor on the swap - but maybe I'm just used to shops ripping people off in my area. But the more important question is, is this shop experienced with the K motor and/or more specifically into a EM/ES chassis ?

http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...434e0c11ca1c67

If you can do it. I say k-swap. But if not speend the 1000 bucks if that for a new d17 and call it happy. and its really not that hard to do the swap. Hasport has instruction on how to lol. I could do it in my sleep if i wanted to.

k-series all the way. just pick what ever motor suits your budget. cause either way it'll cost more than you think.
