loss of teeth on belt...noises???

alright, a few weeks ago i was trying to install my underdrive pulley and i used one of the belts i removed which i assumed would be replaced. anyway, there were some of the teeth that came off and in the past couple of days there has been this awful grinding noise...sometimes when it is running in neutral but other times in between shifts and especially accelerating in first. now, this noise is around my power steering area so i have ruled out the transmission...is the belt the cause of the noise or is there something else that is going out??
as always, thanks!!!

there shouldnt be any teeth on the belts. They are ribbed on one side, and smooth on the other. Unless you are using a belt like the gatorbacks.

The belts could cause an odd noise if they are installed improperly. But missing "teeth" shouldnt pose much of a problem other than proving that the belt is weak and brittle.

Replace the belts, and see id it goes away.

i knew they did not have "teeth" per se, i just did not know what to call them. i did not know if i should go through all of the trouble of changing them unless belts could make grinding noises.

belts don't make grinding noises, loose pullies do. check the tightness of the pulley/pullies you installed.
