Sleeve and block guard?

I have been looking and I can't seem to find who sells them. I think I remembering that we can use d16 sleaves. But where do we buy them along with a block guard? I plan on doing a full d17a2 turbo engine build by the end of summer. I decided to do this instead of a bike mainly because its cheaper and will probably me more fun to have in the ling run.

Dezod seems to have everything but these to items. Plans are to build with stage2 boost cam, valve train, ACT stage 2 clutch and flywheel, Dezod Pistons and Rods, SRT-4 injectors, while useing my current turbo setup and greddy e-manage. I figure i can run a daily of 12 PSI with no problems and also my 50 shot at times.

so any help on the sleaves and guard?

No, do not order D16 sleeves. They are too long. Call darton direct and order the D17 sleeves for a 2001+ civic. Make sure you say "D17 for 2001+ civic". They will know exactly what you are talking about. I have met these guys in person, and they are all awesome. They do great work and will give you any information you will ever need.

D16 block guards will fit.

I'm going to send my block to Erl Everyone on honda-tech swears by erl and it seems like his engines are bullit proof. Hey Mike who installed the sleeves for you darton or another shop and what pistons and rods are you using. Theres more then one company making rods for us I thought crower was the only company. I have a stupid question for you guys that I hope you can help me with. I just got a spare motor to build and I took everything apart yesterday except the bolt that holds the crank pulley. When I try to unbolt the crank pulley it just starts to rotate around. This is my first engine that I took apart so how do I take the bolt out. Is there a tool I need to look the pulley from keeping it from rotating. Thanks guys.

With such a high torque impact gun isn't that going to spin the whole rotating assembly when your trying to take the bolt off. I'm at a stand still here.

I am using a set of custom pistons made by arias to my specs, and a set of crower rods. Darton installed my sleeves (who better than the people who made them?)

To take the crank pulley off, use a 3/4" impact gun at about 150psi of line pressure, and have a friend hold the pulley with his hands. The Impact gun will not spin the pulley in his hand (may move a bit, but not too much). It should take the pulley right off.

well supermex did his sleeves before darton made d17 sleeves i believe. he got them to fit. he had to bore them out and u said their to long so he prolly had them shortened. u guys seen his turbo setup im sure, hes posted it before. so yes d16 will work but more work for you but darton makes d17 sleeves now so no need to now.

The D16 ones arent a direct fit. And many machine shops do not have the mental capacity to realize that they are actually too long. So those two things can cause a really big problem.

But yea, the D16 ones could be modified by a capable machine shop to fit. But since they have the part in stock, Just buy it.

BTW, heres a pic with the part number

Also, im speaking about shitty machine shops from personal experience. My buddy sleeved his 2zz motor, and as soon as he put boost to it, a sleeve dropped. The machinest didnt press in the sleeve all the way, then decked it. So as soon as it got some real cylinder pressure, the head gasket blew.

thanks for the part number im probably gonan order these in about a month. I may just keep my stock cam and valve train for a while and jsut build it up. Because right now its either build the block right or build the head and get it machined. So i would rather run lower boost on a stock head and built block, then blow my engine with a high performance head and stock botom end. This helped me out imensly.(sp)

Well I'm really ****ing pissed off. Excuse my language but toaday I emailed Erlperformance about sleeving and building my block and this is the response I got from this guy Sean who works there.

"Man, I hate to tell you this but we don’t have sleeves for the D17 block. The water jackets inside the block make it to where we can’t sleeve it. If we tried we would end up with 3 different size sleeves in this block. I would love to help you with any other projects you might have but I don’t think I can help with this one"

What the hell is this guy talking about. They use darton sleeves. This just sucks man, I have the money to spend on their services and they can't do it. Does anyone else know a great engine builder. I live on Long Island, New York and I have NRG Tech close by but those guys seem a little shady and I don't know anyone else that I can trust and that has a great reputation. Maybe I should of gone with a swap. Thanks guys.

I think its hard to find a east coast engine builder in New York. Why don't you call them and talk to someone who knows wtf they are talking about? Tell them about the darton sleeves, it is always better to talk on the phone then to e-mail

ERL uses darton MID sleeves. These completely convert the block to a semi-closed deck. It completely removes the cylinder and replaces it with a new one. The darton flanges replacement sleeves (same ones i have) do not. These ones require you to simply bore out the stock steel cylinder and enlarget it to fit the newer, thicker ones. The MID just completely replaces all of it.

Darton told me that if they were to make an MID sleeve for the D17, the sleeves alone would cost $1200 and the labor to install them would cost upwards of $1500. The hump at the bottom of the water jacket just make it too damn hard to make a set of sleeves. The K20 is completely flat on the bottom of the water jacket, as is a B18C and B18C5. A B16 has a small hump, but is was small enough to where only a small fly-cut in one of the sleeves was needed

they make tools that let you hold the pulley in place while you turn the bolt off with the other. If you notice, the pulley bolt opening is square, this allows you to put this tool in the hole, while allowing access to the bolt.

Well I contacted Laskeyracing in Anaheim,CA and they can sleeve it. They use Benson sleeves which are manufactured by Darton. Darton uses Dan Bensons specs for the sleeves. I'm going to have them build the whole bottom end which includes everything (Bore, hone and etc). Their also going to balance and micropolish the crank. I plan on sending the block the first week of April. Thanks for the help guys.
