Need an ALTERNATIVE to Honda Power Steering Fluid
Power steering fluid in my 01 Sedan is foaming like hell and it is also overflowing above the container.
Result: fluid is at the lower mark.
I heard that contamination in the fluid could be the reason why it is foaming like that. So i decided to flush the PS fluid.
The problem is that honda dealers in my country don't have 'Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid'. They told me to use 'Shell Dexron Power Steering Fluid' instead. Weird!!! My understanding is that dexron is used in automatic transmission fluid and not in Power Steering!
So my question is, Is it safe to use that Dexron fluid in my power steering system?
If not, Is there an alternative fluid that i can use?

yes, it safe. Dexron is just a additive package that can be used in many places. As long as it says power steering fluid you should be fine.
The foaming is caused by contamination that has bonded to the anti-foaming agents used in the oil. Actually all the oil in your car has this agent in it, motor, tranny, ps. Anyway you should be fine to use that ps fluid.
