changing mufflers

I have a full catback magnaflow and I want to change the muffler. Will my performance change if i put on a generic muffler? I just want to change the sound.

im no expert, so take my words for what they're worth, but I would think as long as you kept the same size inlet, and didnt go smaller or something that it would generally stay the same..if all your changing is the muffler

the muffler I have on right now has a 2.25 inlet, and the muffler I want is 2.5. Will this change anything?

if the inlet on the muffler you want is 2.5, and the inlet on the muffler you have is 2.25....you'll have to get them to make a "tapered" section of piping so that they can weld the new one on....

but other than that i wouldnt say you'd see any gains or loses

You don't want the angry bee sound do you? I assume you're trying to get rid of that, in that case a muffler should help you if you get the proper one.

^^Right, and this was helpful because?

Anyway back on topic. Just changing the muffler shouldnt affect performance, as long as the muffler is of the same basic design (baffled vs baffled, straight vs straight, 2.5" vs 2.5", ect...). However changing the sound is a diffrent story. Just changing to a generic muffler may not yeild the desired results. I am a bit uneducated on the magnaflow, does it have a resonator? If not that might help with any buzzy/raspy-ness (if thats even the problem). If you tell us a bit more about what you are trying to achieve sound wise people could probably help more.

the magnaflow does have a resonator with 2.25 piping but the muffler I want has 2.5 inlet. My friend has the generic muffler and it sounds loud and deep. The magnaflow is a little quiet for my taste (sort of deep and quiet).

just get a tsudo exhaust off ebay. U could sell your magnaflow to pay for it, and it has the sound that i think u are looking for.

then changing mufflers would be cool for u, but the creator of this thread wants a completly different sounding exhaust so i think it would be best for him to just get another exhaust instead of hacking up his magnaflow and not be shure what the outcome will be.

buying another muffler would be a lot cheaper than to change the whole exhaust. Any other opinions?

I got my exhaust for 215 shipped.U can sell your magnaflow to pay for it. It has 2.5 in piping, deep throaty sound, and not raspy. I've had it for five months and it's holding up fine. I'll post up sound clips if u want.
