Question regarding Civic 01 17" tires
Question regarding Civic 01 17" tires
Hey,
I just bought 17" tires for my Civic 01 coupe and I'm wondering if the tires are right size for my car.
Here is some info regarding the tires, it comes with rims:
-------------------------------------------------
Ultra HPR
Made in U.S.A
R-44761 R-0276 URMB-260
E13
026699
M+S
205/4DR17 80H
--------------------------------------------------
does anyone know if these tires with rims might fit on my Civic 01 coupe?
Please advice....

Where did you read an 80 into the tire size?
I see 205/4DR17 which I assume is 205/40/17 and no its not the right size, and the load rating of 80 is too low.
I don't quite understand why you'd ask AFTER you bought the tires. Seems kinda pointless now.

Anyways, I talked to a tire professional today and just by looking at the tires he said it wouldn't be problem to put these on. The only thing that concerns him was the front tires. He said they might grind with fenders or something, but he isn't sure abt it yet.
He also said that the tire height is same but the width is just little more on the 17"s.
So I dunno....I hope they fit. I will find that out tomorrow.
The load rating of 80 is too low? so what's the right rating for a Civic coupe 01 then?

Well your "tire professional" is wrong. 215/45/17 matches the speedometer, 205/40 is way too thin.
The load rating should be at least 84 or 85.

i am running 205-40-17 also. but only because i am low. no problems. watch those potholes
there isn't much rim protection with that size of tire.

yeah...let's go back to the original problem cited by BoilerMaker...THE LOAD RANGE
if that load range is to low toooooooooo much stress is placed on the tire, thus resulting in sidewall sepeartion from beads, broken belts, yada yada; it's a dangerous thing to do , and most people pay no mind to it they jsut say oh well Its just more road noise, or it doesn't matter its a civic its light it will be fine.... that road noise is the tire not the road.
read up on your tires and the proper loads for the vehicle and speed ratings, before going on looks over integrity and purpose.
normal for our cars is around an 88(around 1300lbs) an 80 is under 1000.
oh yeah and fyi for thsoe who are too lazy to look at the load index those numbers correlate to pounds
I.E.<<<link to TIRERACK INFO
89 = 1,279 pounds
88 = 1,235 pounds
87 = 1,201 pounds
86 = 1,168 pounds
85 = 1,135 pounds

I just put 215/45ZR17 Continental ConiExtremes on my 01 Ex...Great traction in dry/wet, but since I commute 30 minutes a day, comfortable ride, too

OK got my 205/40/17 tires installed. Looking pretty cool. Just have to make sure I don't put lot of pressure on the tires because they are already below average tire pressure for a Civic. Will keep em for few months....
Cheers
