Tranny fluid..

i think i need to change it, the car has about 37k miles on it. its an 01 lx 5 spd. The gears arent really that smooth. they go in but it feels a little crunchy. when do you normally change the mtf? and how much does it usually run?

TY

it don't need changing until the mileage hits 120k miles. wtf? are you just not shifting right? check for leaks, you need 2 quarts, well not all of it, but its like 5 bucks a quart. wait till 100k or something

depends how you drive. if you grind a lot, change it sooner. if you never grind, then you don't need to change it for a while.

I plan to change my every 25k miles ... I don't wanna screw it up and a used y2m3 tranny costs about $1800.

Transmission should be done every 20-25k or 30 if you have to. 120k is crap. ATF should be flushed at 60k.

Yes, and if you are having a shop do it or you're doing, USE HONDA ATF fluid, do NOT use anything else, many people have had problems with other brand ATF fluids.

Not sure how long you should go on a manual tranny fluid, I personally would try much further than 50k, but that's just me.

You need to flush an auto much sooner than a manual because the clutch packs wear down and contaminate the oil. The wear on a manual tranny is low enough that you can go 50-100k miles on the stock fluid with very little worry.

My question is, what is the recommended weight for transmission oil in an 01 5spd? I'm thinking about changing out mine with some GM Friction Modified which we used with great success on my dads S2k but I would like to make sure its the right setup.

its not hard to change the mtf. the hardest part is jacking up all 4 corners to make the car even. spending 20 dollars once every 9 months to a year is worth it if it extends your trannys life by 25-75k miles especially if you sale it b4 that happens.

this isnt hard its simple. once the car is up it takes less than 10 minutes

im gonna type this once, and most people will agree with me here
there is no weight to use for manual tranny fluid for hondas
ONLY USE HONDA MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID
i don't know about your dads s2k, but GM fluid don't belong in a car fully built and assembled in effin JAPAN. WTF??? get some Honda MTF and nothin else. maybe MAYBE some mobile 1 stuff. i don't know.

Hmm... Redline

I use RedLine's MTL product and It has been working well for me. I'm noticing weird stuff with my engine, but I just hit 50K miles and I need plugs etc.

For info on lubes n such, try bobistheoilguy.com There's some hardcore oil people on that board.
