job advice...LONG
well i started a new job about 4 weeks ago. I was supposed to be trained on gate operators and start up a new division of the company, office, inventory, work truck, the whole 9.....
well, the first thing they did was make me work with the install crews for a month. manual labor installing fence with people that speak no english from 5.30am till about 4.30 pm. now this sucks but i figured i would stick it out for the opprotunity. now its been a month. they have no other training planned for me, i have to build my own desk, run my own voice and data cable, i now support their phone system also...i sitll dont have a computer and i still havent seen a gate operator in person. Im also on salary so with these hours, i have acctually taken a pay cut
they seem so unorganized and have broken pretty much every promise they made in the interview and are dragging their feet on my position. they have nothing for certain on my training and the guy thats supposed to be my contact is also in sales......he cares more about that then what im doing (obvioulsy).
so my old boss calls me last nite and offers me a $3.25 raise and 3.5 cents more per mile than i was making. downsides are no real room for advancement (why i left in the first place) i have to use my car for work again. upsides are schedule, more money, being good at my job and being friends with all the people i work with.
i dont know though...if the fence thing takes off, it could be a good place to be but right now my gut tells me these guys dont know what they are doing and because i have no direct experience in that field, i dont know how to get it off the ground
what would you do?

Tough one man. You just bought a new house so the money needs to be there. Then again not putting so many miles on the car is nice I'm sure. Well if you need to go back to your job don't feel bad..... but do it because it's a better means to and end not just a temporary fix. Then again great gains come from great risk sometimes so ya never know. Oh hell, I'm not good for any advice. lol

I wish I could help and give good advice but I think what Dallis has already said is exactly how I would have put it. Old job.....................more $
You need to talk to the company that you are at and tell them that you are not feeling like you are getting anywhere there. Tell them that your old company called you and offered your old job back but you would rather stay at the new job with the terms laid out in the interview. If they are for real they should have no problem putting something in writing and it might be what they need to gett off there a$$ and work with you.

if they arent going to be honest about their intentions with you, then go back to your previous employer
aleast you could keep looking for something with more advancement within another company while making decent money

I talked to the current employer two days ago about the stuff and told them i needed to "see the light at the end of the tunnel". today they told me of a training course in seattle nov 1 - 4
they also told me of a sheduled meeting with a supplier in two weeks to learn some more stuff
i dont know, whenever im there, i want to leave. it seems like this is going to turn into a construction foreman job vs managment.
Im going to call the owner of my old job and see if there is a way for maybe me to be groomed to run some of his bussiness and when he retires perhaps buy part of it. i really liked my old job, the only reason i left was because it was kind of a dead end. im really leaning towards taking my old job. i liked the flexable hours, the people, the job, and now the money.......if i do take it ill probably have a truck by december (and maybe a project
)
