Hey guys, im located in killeen, and none of the exhaust shops can mandrel bend. I was wondering if there were any places in austin area that could?

Order mandrel bends from jegs. Take them into a muffler shop and have everything fitted and welded. I know bill's muffler in cove can put it all together and they do good work and don't overcharge.

I have yet to see any shops in houston or surrounding cities do madrel bent piping. the machines alone to get the piping mandrel bent are very expensive. So most shops just do crush bending. Besides if a place did do it, it would cost the same or even more then just getting a cat back off the internet or at a shop.

One-Fab in Austin has stainless piping and so does AutoLogic in Houston. They don't have benders (I don't think) but they have the piping needed to make anything you want.

alot of shops have stainless steal piping, and most muffler shop have piping to make any custom exhaust, but none will perfectly shape that exhaust with no crushed bends. some can get close, but still will be crushed bends.

Now dont get me wrong, there probably is a shop out there that has the equipment to do mandrel bend, but I havent ever heard of any.

Dude, what are you talkng about? Matt from One-Fab in Austin made me a stainless downpipe and a full set of intercooler pipes from scratch and none of my bends are crush bent. What I'm saying is if you find a shop that does fabwork and has pre-mandrel bent pipes (or you can buy your own from jeg's), it's just a matter of welding.

again back to my original point, did they actually bend the piping or was it already bent and they just fitted it to the car? Of cource speed shops will have lots of mandrel bent piping on hand and can custom fab stuff to the car, but they didnt actual start with a straight piece if steel and bend the piping. Now muffler shops wont do this kind of work. 99% of all muffler shops will start out with a straight piece of steel piping in different diameters, take measurements and start bending to the shape of the OEM exhaust. And as much as they try and get it exact, it will still have crushed corners and what not. Its a matter of price. I dont think any of these privately owned muffler shops are going to fork over the money for the equipment to make it possible to mandrel bend piping. Its not worth it. Either you pay $500 for a nice catback exhaust, or a few hundred bucks for a custom exhaust that does the job and whether or not you get any power isnt really on the minds of anyone, they are more likely concerned about how it sounds.
