Question about swaps

Ok well i am more into the forced induction but my friend came up to me and asked me to help him pick out the best engine swap idea for his 1997 Civic Hx. He was asking me what engine is the best for this civic. Could you guys help me out i was thinking b16 or k20a3. Also How much would a shop charge to install (rough estimate)and where should i look into buying a engine besides this forum. Thanks for your help

deff b16 1st gen. People can say swap a k20a2, or gsr this and that but when u start buying the parts like shift linkage, mounts, axles etc it all adds up money wise and for now it would be good for him to start on a b16 with bolt-ons. Then when he saves for money he can do internals or maybe a b20 bottom swap and go all out. I have been looking around and the b16 swap for me if i do it is gonna be around low 2,000's. And tell ur friend bigger isnt always better. My friend with a b16 swap in a eg with only aem cai, dc header (bad), 2 1/2 inch exhuast stock internals and timming ran a 14.1. And his friend has a gsr swap and with alot more mods he ran a high 14. Main reason is he has better tires and suspension so u should invest in that as well. Here's a site hmotorsonline.com but look around and u can deff find a better deal. And tell ur friend to go on honda-tech to find out more info.

dam 4000 for a b16 thats kind of expensive. Do they do good work? Tell him to find someone on honda-tech/locally that can do the swap or help for alot less.

lovinthevtec is an unknown quantity at this point
if you diy install its much cheaper

my buddy got a quote on a b16a1, $3000 CDN for everything including axels, tranny, motor, mounts etc.. into a 96 coupe

i'd say

b16= good high end power, no torque
b18b= decent torque, good for boost (lower compression) but no vtec
b18c(1)= great engines, pull hard
b18c5= expensive, but upgraded internals, higher compression
b20= unless your doing a frankinstine, stay away from b20's

oh and you still need shift linkage and mounts no matter what b series motor you buy

iirc, 1st gen b16's are obd1 ... not very legal.

I'd say get a b16a2 from a 99 si ...

k20a3 would cost too much and would not be worth it at all

b18c for a good all motor car or great for boost. b20 if you wnt a bad a$$ all motor car. my neighbor's b20 integra is pretty damn nice without the vtec head. but in all even if you do a complete type r b18c5 swap with tranny and everything it should, cost about $4.5-5k for everything includeing install.

True for the most part.

B series in general....18 or 16 is a greatly supported motor.

who said it was USDM? plus that is also the numbers from the Honda CRV which dosn't have the tunning for the HP numbers. and once you but on the b18c intake manifold, header, full exhaust, and tune the ecu, its runs pretty damn good.

b20 is for torque and most people slap on a gsr or b16 head for more power anyways.
