engine oil question

03 civic with 42kmiles. Here is the question. My car is running fine but i noticed something strnage today. i do my own oil changes and put 3.7qt every oil change with filter. and today when i drained the oil,it was kinda low. because i poured the oil in the milk gallon and it was not totally filled to the top. this way i know its excatly 3.7qt. now this is the first time i had my oil change done at 4000 miles. i usually do at 3000 but this time i had driven for 2500 miles on long trip for 3 days. and noticed it was little low.Is it ok for engine to eat little bit of oil ? i would say it was kinda half a quart low. also i changed the oil to exxon superflow and didnt find any metal in the oil. otherwise i used to notice them in my castrol oil. please put suggestion on this.

thanks

If you drove it extremely aggressive then i would say alittle gone would be ok, maybe you didnt totaly tighten the draqin plug and it leaked alittle bit without any notice.

burning a little oil is no biggie. hondas do tend to do this, some more than others. (S2000's can burn a quart in as little as 2000 miles)

Losing a little bit of oil is okay especially if you drove it hard. For some reason a lot of Honda engines burns a little bit of oil especially if it's been driven hard.

1 gallon = 4 quarts, so 3.7 quarts would not be totally filled.

Also, are you taking in consideration that the oil filter and oil filter media is still holding some oil in?
