Blown/Broken Engines

I just want to make a thread out there to get a list of people who have blown their engines/drivetrain because of Forced Induction or from serious N/A mods. This can be anywhere from headgaskets, intake manifolds, transmission failures etc. This is just for information purposes so people can maybe see some of the weak spots for the 7thgen civics and maybe the dangers of heavily modifying and also so we can learn from mistakes made my other members. When you post please tell us the details such as mods (PSI if boosting, nitrous shot etc) and what all broke and whatever else you may think is useful!

ha.

Broke car on 4 psi (head gasket)

Custom kit with air-water intercooler
The water line on the air-water came off, drained the water out. Hot intercooler superheated incoming air, hot air caused detonation

Broke my car on somewhere between 7 and 9 psi of boost.

Custom turbo setup
Ported cylinder head
SF fuel system (damaged injectors, went lean, broke pistons)

blown transmission back in feb. my ACT clutch was burnt to hell and the throwout bearing was shot (so far my exedy has been great), the synchros in 2nd and 5th gear were gone. So had to replace the tranny....engine is strong, seems to me the weakest link is the transmission..i was running between 5-12psi on it before it went. Started noticing the clutch slipping and 2nd gear going out around mid jan.

Custom turbo kit (T28 w/ internal waste gate)
Weisco pistons, crower rods, ARP head studs

How much does a Headgasket replacement usually go for in labor, parts, etc?

the headgasket is like a flat papery or rubbery like substance. in my buick it cost 30 bucks for the rubber seal. then labor is a couple of hours.

head gaskets run about $20 for stock replacement.

You can install it yourself for pretty much nothing. If you have a shop do it, expect to pay them a few hundred bucks.

You can do it in one day if it is your first time. If youve done it before, you can do it in a matter of hours. Some people can finish it all in under 2 hours.

I'm on my 3d engine.
1st went because of a coolant line being pinched.
2d never blew but had a bad oil leak from the oil sensor hole being stripped.
3d is currently about to be tuned.

Spun 3 rod bearings at 14-15 psi @ 7300. hehe. Pretty well tuned with the EMS. Boost spike, old oil, and too much power are to blame. Shoulda remembered to set the boost cut on the EMS. Sucks when you have everything at your fingertips and dont use it. Dohh!
Mods included; ported D16y8 manifold with d17 TB ported, DSM 450ccs, aeromotive FPR, 255 walbro, kms valvetrain, ARP head studs pn#208-4301, oem head gasket, blockguard, AEM EMS, zeitronics wideband, clutchmasters stage 1 clutch, aluminum flywheel, HP turbo kit. T3/T04. Greddy type s bov, tial 38mm wg. custom 2.5 inch exhaust with no cat. No ps or AC.
