Coilovers with wha shocks
can someboy here recommend me coilovers that will go with OEM shocks, which nothing will get screwed up. i duno if this is a repost, i coldnt find it in search. thx in advance.
only thing that pairs up with the OEM struts are the OEM springs. therefore, no coilovers out on the market that wont stress out your OEM struts. i wish there were springs/coilovers that pair up perfectly with the OEM struts but it just wont happen.
but i do know that skunk2 coilovers are meant to go with OEM struts fitment wise, NOT performance wise.

When they say they fit the OEM shocks, that just means that they are designed to fit the dementions of the OEM shock, not the damper rates....

I know, that was wierd to me as well. I guess its for the more "comfortable" ride. I totally agree with you. its about 50LBS front and rear difference.

I have Eibach sportlines with Koni dampers... soon to be changed out with a nice set of Ground controls once $$ becomes more avalible... Buying a house makes you so poor.

^Heh The hard part about a owning a house is that you can either look at it like you just got $XXX,XXX in to debt... or you just made $XXX,XXX in equity.. personally, I hate debt.

I searched and read that Boilermaker has called Ground Controls and it seems the rates for the fronts are 375lbs and the rears are 425lbs. And from more searching, I know that Boiler dude is using konis. So the above rates should be for the GC koni kit. Thus, can I say that the 50lbs difference you mentioned would mean the GC kit for OEM shocks have rates of 325lbs front and 375lbs rear?
I'd find out the lengths and rates for the RSX kit.... which comes with the 6" rear spring that you need for this car as well.
My guess is that GC wants to make sure you don't have coil bind. I've been looking at rates in the 200 range and you just can't do it with 2.5" coilover springs unless you go reeeeaaaallly long and you'd need to move the spring perch much lower than stock which might cause tire clearance issues. Honda uses the large diameter to get low spring rates and lots of space between coils with a reasonable length spring. To get a low rate with 2.5" springs you have to have lots of wire, and little space between the coils, so they stack up quickly unless they are long to begin with. The high rate 2.5" springs have less wire, more space, thus more travel.
Oh yeah, I agree with you that the GC rates/lengths for our cars seem off. It just seems like they haven't got the rear motion ratio right and minor mistakes in calculation of the arm lengths make a major difference in wheel rate. Are you happy with the way yours are now?

I know this because I tried to buy 350s and they absolutely REFUSED to sell me them. Regardless of what the rates are, they're too high for stock dampers. The stock rates are almost too high for the stock dampers (which is why everyone's shocks are blowing prematurely). I don't know, I honestly think the GC spec rates are FUBAR. I had them for 4 days and hated them, not to mention the rear springs they insist are correct for the kit are too short. Something tells me they put a kit out based on what they make for the older Civics and figured out the suspension differences after the face.

Could you share with us the rates and lengths you have on your car now? Joined: Jul 2002

I'm using the standard front spring, its 375 lb-in, 7" I believe.
The rears are 525 lb, 6" springs. (100 lbs stiffer and 1" longer)
