Rep Power: 0 EX vs. DX
it was an extremely warm weekend for january here in maine so we all decided to have street racing on saturday, well I'm still rollin my stock dx coupe until spring rolls around and I can start putting the mods on.. so anyways a group from new hampshire is comming up, and while they are pulling into our meeting spot what other do I see than a 2k1 civic.. right away I've decided I'm going to race him. come to find out after talking to him his is a bone stock ex with diy mods like cleared corners, and dash trim. so after we get to the spot I race my friends 99 dx and destroy it, and ask the guy with the ex if he wants to race. I thought he would definately kill me but much to my suprise his bumper was about a foot ahead of mine and stayed that way the whole way down.. whats with that? I figured 15 more hp, and vtec would surely kill me. maybe its the whole weight factor?? I dunno, just thought it was interesting that he couldnt pull on me..
my car:
2002 civic dx coupe
5spd
6630miles
removed 8" of intake tubing before air box

Rep Power: 396 Plus yours is lighter. I can't remember what the difference was betwean the '01 DX and the '01 EX? It's the the dealer brochure. You have an '02, but the difference should still be there. It was significant too, something like a 100 pounds or more. That and the lighter wheels and smaller diameter wheels on the DX.

Rep Power: 0 The weight helps...DX it's like 100 lbs lighter than the EX, plus I think that non-VTEC civics have a better low and mid range power than VTEC civics, like the RSX and the Type S...but I haven't confirmed that...

Rep Power: 396 That would have to do with the profile of the VTEC camshaft. The profile that is engaged at low rpm's. You might be right in that this part of the EX's VTEC camshaft opens the valves for a shorter period of time than the DX's and LX's camshaft. Hum... I wonder.

Rep Power: 0 I reeeeeally think the factor was the driver and the tranmission!
I have raced a couple of dx's and they stay far behind
And excuse me but.... There is a big difference if we are talking about 10 or 15 hp's in such a light car.
Think about them 5 hp's in intake and exhaust, you feel them 5 hp's good!

Rep Power: 345 the Ex is still a faster car. but, barely I think. DX's about 100 lb less... that should make up a bit of the 12 hp (not 15) difference...
anyway its a driver's race.
any 7th gen civic (except si) vs. each other... besides transmission difference, the next major and most important factor is driver.

Rep Power: 0 first off ive seen a dx do extreame damage at the a street race spot in ny and i`ve done damage agaist many exs
i got vtech its not a vtec e but hay its enough to bring it
as for the difference between the ex,hx and the lx,dx
ex come wit a that new vtech and the lx comes wit the old vtech like the 2000 ex
and the ex comes wit headers the just dont call it that
thats why they only make headers for the ex
but i fixed that cause igot headers on my sh!zzle
and i guarantee i can put up a fight

Rep Power: 0 ill your an idiot. VTEC is only availiable on Hondas Trim EX and above.
and rush, Dakker is right. VTEC-E is meant for better gas milage (E for Economy) while the old VTEC is meant for performance and HP gain.

Rep Power: 0 Sorry to disapoint you Jimmy24, but the ex is not a "much faster car". I've also driven both, and I'm notting downing on ex's, but the ex is only marginally faster - although it is faster. Ex vs. LX/DX both with MT would be a good race but the EX should win. What i wonder about is a MT LX vs. a auto EX. You'd think the LX would win - anyone know?

Rep Power: 0 Ok something doesn't seem right here, 160HP vs. 127HP = .5 sec difference, then 127HP vs. 115HP = .5 sec difference?????
Maybe it's just me.
