what is normal idle RPM?
What is the normal idle RPM for our cars? I have a brand new 2005 civic reverb and I think that it's idleling very low. it idles at 500 RPM's. The car I had before Idleled at 1000 RPM. Does anybody have any idea if it is normal or not.

ok when its cold its at like 1000 or 1250 or something like that. when its hot and you have been driving it for a good ten minutes or do it drops to about 500. when i go 80 for a half hour then stop at a light, it idles at like 300 or 200. real quiet.

If your tach is reading 300 or 200 and your engine is running smoothly, your dashboard tachometer is wrong. Plug in a scan tool to see an accurate tach reading.

notice how below the 1k rpm mark each dash is 200 rpms, not 100 rpms after the 1k mark. so in this picture that i took my rpms are at about 5-600. its above the second line, but below the third. so the third is 600 the second is 400. so yeah. i thought i would have to post a pic. anyway, my car does not idle hard, in fact its very silent and most people think its off. so its nice. what do you guys think?
