Drivetrain shudder in 2002 Civic
Starting to experience a shudder/vibration when the clutch is released from a dead stop, forward and reverse. Worse when the A/C is on and passengers in the car, 62,000 miles. I thought possibly a broken motor or transmission mount.
Any ideas what may be causing this problem?
Thanks
Jay

your car is under warranty. go to the dealership and let them fix it for free. and if they say no call a lawyer. btw who played with your clutch without you knowing? are you the original owner? good luck

If its chattering it could be a lot of things. What happens if you give it more gas? Does it slip? You might have hotspotted the flywheel and its just running on a hard spot, something with the throwout bearing could be acting up, the hub springs, lots of stuff. What are your RPMs doing while its chattering? A little chatter is considered normal, but if its shuttering, you probably want to have it looked at.
You can look at the lower front motor mount, for a while, they were notorious for tearing. Stick your head up there and look at it. It might be the problem, but I would think you'd get the shake under hard acceleration as well as the engine torqued back.
There's no warranty and I don't think it's the clutch, though I could be mistaken. No clutch slip either. I have looked at both the bottom front and top driver side motor mounts but need to look much closer in bright daylight. Is there a 3rd mount low in the rear? The shudder occurs when I release the clutch from a dead stop, typically from a very low RPM or often at idle. Once the car is rolling there is no other indications of a problem. I am 44 but I've slammed 2nd gear as hard as possible 5 or 6 times while I had heavier 17 inch wheels and tires on it. Other than that I have never beat on the car, and it's stock. I would think if the clutch or plate had a hard spot it was hitting on then I could feel that spot trying to pull and release as well when I released the clutch, and it doesn't. It's a high mileage Honda Certified used car from a Honda dealership but the supplied warranty has expired.

The 3rd mount is on the right side... You'll probably have to take the resonator out to see it, but if one was going to break, its gonna be the lower front. You can start expanding the search... a bad spark plug or ignition coil causing the car to stumble or misfire and the engine isn't spinning fast enough, so you really feel it, but that should throw a CEL. Clogged injector, but you'd feel that too. With it being used its hard to know, because you don't know what the other guy did to the car. I'd say your best bet is to take it to a trusted mechanic and have someone else look at it. It may be something as simple as not giving it enough gas and the engine is bogging. Just kinda thinking about it from the AC on perspective. I know I gotta give it more gas to get it rolling when the AC is running.
