Intake and Exhaust Heads
Hey everyone, I just finished browsing for Short Ram Intakes and I found an AEM that isn't that much on 2Loww.com. Well, I have been told that a bypass valve is good to have to prevent water from getting into your engine, but on the other hand, it isn't needed for an SRI because the SR! doesn't extend down as low in your engine as a CAI. So should I get one for my Short Ram Intake or not? If so, on 2Low.com, they have many different sizes, which one would fit by SRI? Thanks for your help.
Intake Diameter Air Bypass Valve 2Loww Price
2.5" 20-401S $41.66
2.75" 20-402S $41.66
3" 20-403S $41.66

I have been told differently, and yes I mean short ram intake. If water gets into my engine, it will cause water lock, so just to be safe and not take any chances, I am going to get one.

Is a waste of money for an SRI, because how the bypass works!
That thing is designed for cai, the inside presure of a cai is different than sri.
pressure is what makes bypass to work. So by the time your filter gets clogged of water, it's going to be inside your engine

if you're driving in water deep enough to get some in your SRI, in which the filter sits just beneath the hood, you shouldn't be driving anyway. buying a bypass valve for an SRI is a ridiculous waste of money, don't do it.

If you go on the site www.aempower.com they will have an article on the home page all about the by-pass valve. It explains how it works but doesn't explain about pressure drops and what would happen if water just splashed on the filter. In the article it shows them dipping the filter with the by-pass in a fish tank full of water. Water ends up 12 to 18 inches up the intake but never reaches the engine. I still say it's a waste of money. I'd rather get a heat shield filter and some side marker lights for the price of that STUPID valve

Word-
Use bypass for CAI, SRI's is just under hood, if water is up there; your hood = HOLY
if water there, you are swimming too- make sure you don't swim w/ car, okie?

yea, I live in houston and usually I don't drive in heavy rain or any of that. Usually when I drive, it is just barely raining, and I usually try to avoid big puddles or go slowly over them. I guess then that I don't need one, so thank you all for your input!
