Cool best car for 3 thousand dollars

sorry this is a repost i just found this thread i know i am a retard

My girlfriend needs a DAILY DRIVER for about $3k. it needs to be reliable and have good gas milage. so pretty much its between mid 90's civic and mx5 or early 90's integra. well thats what i have been able to find but if you have any suggestions. is there anything i should look at with these cars? like aftermarket suspension, exhaust, intake, rims, are these pros or cons? or if they have the contracts showing a pro shop installed them does that change anything? and is v-tec as reliable as non v-tec? also i am 6'2'' 240lbs and since my car is newer most likely i will end up driving the 3 thousand dollar car. so mr2, preludes and miatas are out of the question
