skunk2 coilovers: rate it if you got 'em
i was thinking about getting skunk2 coilovers, but i hear good and bad things about the. i'm thinking about getting ground controls instead if not skunk2.
how is the ride? what shocks are you using? what issues have you had?

junk.
i cant even count how many sets of skunk2 springs ive seen break....and yes, i mean the spring actually breaking from the pressure of it being compressed.

skunk2 sleeved coilovers on stock shocks
1 year (about 15k miles)
spirited driving habits, never been on track or course. just daily driving with some hard turns at times (freeway exits/etc =D)
IMO, it'll be a rough ride in the long run. the first few weeks were OK, but i can tell the shocks were wearing down and just getting harsher by the month. im not picky on ride quality, but i can live with it. my stock shocks are NOT blown but i can expect them too eventually if i keep up the hard turns on the roads (knocks on wood).
ground controls and stock shocks will just be as bad as skunk2s. if i had the chance, i would've saved up for full coilovers or do it right the first time. reason why i got the skunk2s is cause i got them for a good deal and desperately wanted to drop the car. also keep in mind skunk2 coilovers wont work with some aftermarket shocks (IE: KYB and Tokico Blues?)
price:
comfort:
(stock shocks)
quality:
(from my exp)
cons:
-front coils will make nasty creek noises when you steer. this occurs because the coil of the skunk2s is rubbing against the spring. a solution is to grease the top mount plates. i never tried adjusting the index thing though...
-my set was hard to adjust, needed a lot of slack to adjust the coilovers. so had to use wd-40 to let them slide up n down
im guessing your going all out skunk2 brand? skunk2 is comming out with full coilovers, not sure for the em2 though, but i bet it'll cost a pretty penny.
rep me if this was helpful

thanks for the info jttegx.
i was planning on running with koni yellows the same time that i install either the skunk2 or ground control coilovers. i'm just curious as to why some people have had skunk2's break. usually skunk2 makes great quality parts.
right now i'm kind of leaning more towards ground controls because you can order them at a custom spring rate, which will be good for when i autocross.
