Thinking about getting a SCION XB Any Advice?
Thinking about getting a SCION XB Any Advice?
I was thinking about trading in my 2001 chevy prizm and getting a 2005 SCION XB in dark blue or dark red, or even white...Not sure of the color yet. I am not sure if I am going to go through with it though....
My prizm is not a great looking car, but it is a great driving car, and I only pay $135 a month. I think I owe around $4000 on it...and I have no idea what the cars trade in value, but im sure its prolly under $6000. I dont want a high payment...and I am sure with $2000 down the payment wont be too low. I was thinking about doing a smart buy.....Because I think that the payment would be a lot lower. I am not interested in customizing the XB at all...I just like the look, and the amount of room that is on the inside.
So tell me your insight on the SCION XB please.....Or give me advice on what I should do....
If you are going to tell me to stick with honda, please dont post here. I have had my share of Hondas, 4 in total and I am ready to branch out. My wife still has an 02 civic.
Thanks

I have heard nothing but good things about the xB. This one women that comes into the restaurant I work at is obviously well off, and I have seen them come by in a Mercedes before. Anyway, one night there are two identical xbs parked right behind eachother and this young girl that drove one of them was remarking about it with a friend and then this rich, older women I mentioned runs up and exitedly explains that the other xB is hers, and she even pulled me into the conversation and explained to me for 10 minutes why she loves her car so much.
Also my tattoo artist, a Honda fan, loved his xB so much that he bought his wife one too. His other car is a stripped ek hatch with 30k worth of goodies.
-sorry if this is incoherent, I have been up all night writing a paper...

My only advice.....
Get a barn with wheels. it has a better drag coefficient.
j/k. yeah haven't heard anything necessarily bad about them.

Well, where to start.... I myself do not own one, but my roomate does. He works for Toyota as a service writer. He likes to "tune" too. Thet are nice, lots of room, except for the trunk/cargo area. The factory options are good, I mean really AEM intake...
With the front seat all the way back, I fit in the back seat, Sweeet. The get great gas mileage
. All of the good things aside..... It's not that fast. It's shape causes alot of drag. Unless you want a manual trans, then atleast you can control the shift points.... But even so, there a little slow. So unless you dont care about power and speed... It's still a cool car. PW, PL, ABS, Vehicle Skid Control all standard... Just add your options.
On a personal note: I'd perfer a TC

I have a prizm....Hence I dont care about Speed....Just want a bigger roomier car...I know the exterior isnt big but the inside is. The one I sat in yesterday, was sooo roomy....Couldnt believe there was so much room.
I wouldnt get the TC unless it was a 4 door...The wife may have kids in a few years.

trade in value for the prism will be anywhere from 5-6,000. the only negative with driving a box on wheels is highway driving, especially on windy days. they are all over the road. good luck though...

well, I just don't like the way it looks. I've heard good things and its toyota so should be reliable, but it just looks weird and very slow. I think slower than a vic even.

That doesnt matter. Im not too concerned with the speed. I am looking for comfort and space really....The prizm is a great driving car, just very small on the inside.
There are a ton of people complaining about broken windshields with them. I know a guy that has had one for 2yrs and has had 6 windshields and he drives conservatively. Other than that they are based off the echo which is a great car. My wife had one and we were consistintly getting between 43 & 50 mpg with the tires at proper inflation, a performance exhaust, and a K&N Air filter (5spd Manual w/o AC) if you wondered. We had no issues with that car at all, it was a great ride but we had a son and we needed a 4dr with ac so we got the civic which is MUCH nicer and we wondered y we didnt do this in the first place.
The wind shield is sooo big and such a flat surface.... thats the only reason. A moth hitting it while at highway speeds could break it
. But seriously, it's structural integrity souldn't be a concern. The NTSB approved it! I think that other guy just isn't relaying all or the story of how they broke. My friend has had his for Over 1.5 years, and hasn't replaced the stock one.... and he lives in New England... (road salt and all durring the winter)

i have a friend that bought one in august, had it for 2 weeks, but the financing didnt go through or something. so he got his jetta back. but he says that he liked it, it was quick enough for him (5spd), and there is a lot of room. the gas mileage was good also. the only thing he said it needed was a sunroof. sounds like a good car, plus its a toyota, it will last a long time. my parents have 3 toyotas (85 pickup 217k miles!, 00 sienna, 03 tundra), and they love em all. i would do it for sure if i were in your position.
I like how every other reply is about how slow the car is, and then the poster replys with a "I don't care about speed", and then 2 posts later, you get another moron using speed as a deciding factor. Every time I read this board, I start to understand a little more about why nature goes about killing off species like us every few hundred million years.
To answer the question, my fiancee owns an XB, and she loves it. It IS slow, but since that means nothing, then there are really very few reasons not to get one. Amazing gas mileage (in george bush's america, that's a good thing!), very spacious (we hauled a full load of furniture in it with no problem), and of course it doesn't look all that bad. I admit that I thought they were a bit ugly and boxy when I first saw them (I used to say the XB stood for xbox, since it was such a huge box), but now they have really grown on me. I plan on getting a TC in the near future if I can stand to part with my civic... not sure I can at this point, since I just got it the way I want it. Either way, good luck.

i'll admit that i havent read anything in this thread, but just my two cents:
the xB is one of the ugliest things around, besides an aerio or one of those bloody smart cars
if you really want a scion, get the tc

I would go to an xB forum U will see that toyota/scion has issued a behind the scenes warranty on the xB's windshield because of so many repairs. So Im justified on what i am saying. I personally saw a few posts on one of the boards about it because i am kinda undecided between an 06 Si or a tC with cost being a major but not total factor.

While I don't have any experience with them (thankfully they aren't sold up here), I have driven an Echo (as a rental) and I was utterly disappointed with its power, handling, brakes, etc. Since the xB is based on the Echo platform and likely heavier than the Echo, I would think the xB would be even worse. That said, I'm not sure what your Prizm is like (is that one thats just a rebadged Corolla?), so maybe the xB won't be as dramatic a change for you in terms of power, handling, etc. I wouldn't worry about reliability being issue though, so if you are okay with its power, handling, braking, and refridgerator box styling then go for it.

Actually my prizm has more pickup than an automatic ex stock civic....But again I say that horse power means nothing to me. I am trying to save for a house...So I may just stick with the prizm for now...I just figured for what I am paying for the Prizm I may be able to get an XB but I just figured it out online...and while im not sure how much I still owe on the prizm...I think it may be better just to wait....

I thnk they're an okay car. Based on appearence, i wouldnt get it, but it's reliable. Have u considered the Element? I know they're a bit pricier, but they're good as well.
