Info On Head and Cam Work

Now that a few companies, like Gude, Crower, and DH-Racing have been making the Head Packages for our Civics, I would like to know if there are any problems with any one who has the work done. I have searched and found a bunch of general info, but really nothing that was too helpful, mainly because the threads I found were all from last year when these companies didn't have anything out yet. I also called Gude and spoke to Bill, he told me that right now they are having a "deal". For $1450 and the $500 refundable core charge, they will send you the package then you send your old one back. He also told me this package gives us about 170HP and I forget the Torque (woops). I also looked up Crower, and found nothing for our D17's at all, at least not on thier website. DH-Racing has a fews things for our D17's but I haven't called them yet for any information. The problem I'm having is that when I search for stuff on here, I find more useless information and people arguing about stuff than I do the stuff I'm actually looking for. I'm looking to build a full N/A motor and those numbers sound good, but do you think they are true? If we can get enough usefull information maybe someone can make a sticky for this topic. Unless it's already done somewhere, but I didn't catch it. Ok, let me know what you guys know, and remember, useful information, please!

What's wrong with these companies though? And why do some people say they have a cam from Crower if Crower doesn't have anything listed for the D17?

Thanks though!

I haven't been into much of the internal engine work yet... but now that I'm done with bolt-ons and making more money, I'd like to get more into the engine, literally.

Search DH Racing and you will see how several members got screwed over. I guess Crower hasn't updated their website....but several members have e-mailed them.

lol...i figured that, but just checking... I mean he did pretty much say that doing the head and cam work would turn the engine into a Type-R engine... but again, this is why I am questioning all of this.

Vantage should not be trusted
dont go Gude, ive heard nothing but bad things for them. I loved my crower setup on my CRX, and when a cam broke, they sent me another cam PLUS a free set of springs.

Yes I've dealt with dh if you can call it that. Me and 30 others bought their crank pulley for almost $200 and nobody could get it to fit. The one guy who pounded it on with a hammer had the battery light come on 2 mins later. Yea that's over $5000 they stole from our site. Then I was also stupid and sent my head for port and polish for $740. Well they did an okay job I guess, not great, but alot better than what other people got. Now my idle is messed up and I maybe gained 5hp if that.

i believe exospeed does pnp head work as does kms. Someone here had good results with kms for ported head work. Crower is reseasing new cams very soon.

The Exospeed website only has cams and heads for the D16 engines.

What kind of gains do you think a N/A engine would get with the work that some of these companies have to offer?

Don't waste your time and money. AT MOST, you'll gain 15 with a pnp and cam, unless you are serious about building the motor and about spending big bucks.

I Dyno'd last year with only a intake and muffler and had 117WHP, with everything i have now, i would expect maybe 125WHP. I was supposed to go get Dyno tuned this Tuesday, but with the way the money fell this week, it's being pushed to Friday the 29th in the morning. If i still go, i will post the outcome as soon as i can. ...and i will too, not like some people who say they will, but don't.
