Canyon Lake
Canyon Lake
Got this from our scooby forum .. check this out ..
I don't know why, but for some reason I like you idiots, so here we go...
Like I said in a previous thread, MCSO Lake Patrol summer schedule started March 28. What that means is full squads on the weekends, that's five cars for Canyon alone and about the same number for Bartlett, starting time 0600 and end at 2300. There's one deputy living at each lake so they could be out at any time. In the summer on the weekends, at least one of our helicopters is at either Canyon or Saguaro and they run just shy of 150mph. MCSO has one of the most liberal pursuit policies in the state. Since SR88 is a state highway, DPS also patrols it so add a couple more cars.
Lake Patrol scrapes up hundreds of people each year and we average about 11 fatalities during the season. The motorcycle accident I did last weekend resulted in the guy losing a good portion of his foot and lots of other broken bones.
I don't want to see any of your mugs at any of my accident scenes, so be careful and gear up. Canyon lake is the wrong place to open it up, especially this time of year. Go to the track.
I hope everyone reads this thread. If it prevents even just one accident or ticket, I'll be happy.

Thanks for the info! Just last thursday we went out to Canyon Lake for a cruise on the bikes. There was a guy out there with us on a brand new 2005 suzuki katana bike, and there was about 17 bikes going on that cruise. This guy was the only guy not wearing a jacket or a helmet. He had on a wife beater and shades, well anyways we go around the first corner and he took it really really wide and I thought that was kind of weird. Well once we hit the second corner the guy didnt' even turn at all, it was a right hand turn and he just kept going straight. I thought the guy was going to drive straight off of the cliff but before he could stop himself he slammed on the breaks after realizing he wasn't going to make the turn and than he just dumped his bike over to prevent himself from going over the edge.
Luckily he didn't get hurt and the right side of his bike got all scratched up from the fall. The bike was just barely hanging there on the edge, so we all parked quick than ran down there to help him pull his bike up. The thing was hanging there by him holding it and it was resting on a rock facing down the hill, i thought for sure it was going to go down the long *** cliff drop there. But luckily we got there in time, pulled the bike back up to the road, the dude hopped on it and started it up and took off again. We continued the ride like nothing happened. If he would have gone any faster he probably wouldnt be here or he would be royally hurt and definately the bike would have been totalled.
Thanks for the info about the lakes, I didn't realize all the extra po-poe's they will have patrolling the twisties.

I went there last weekend as well. Was a good time. I saw a big group of bikes up there. Looked like fun. I wasnt driving too crazy, I had 2 kids in my car, one of which never asked if he could go, nor do I know his parents. So I had to be safe.
