manifold: welded or cut?
manifold: welded or cut?
ok so which manifold would be better to use
i know one that was welded would be lighter
but my dad can help me cut one from a block of steel since he does cnc and all that stuff
im thinking this would result in a stronger mani since there are no seams
but would be heavier than the welded one
it would look similar to the hks one

you guys think this is a good idea?

you can get in and cut holes in the pipes with cnc machines?? thats cool but i would be a little afraid to make my own. being on the way to becoming an engineer i know how many tens of hours went into designing that one you pictured and making your own would not take into account many other variables you would never think of like how it will heat up, expand, contract, how air will flow through, air patterns (not all 4 cylinders fire at same time), etc...
but if you arent looking to get tons of horsepower and just want a basic kit the worst that can happen is you will lose 1 block of metal and you will at least have tried.
edit:
isn't that one you showed cast not milled out?

If your going to make a log style manifold use 2 stainless steel 90's and 2 stainless steel T's and a 3/8-1/2" plate for the flanges. The pre made 90's and T's will flow much better then you could ever make a billet manifold. I doubt you would be able to mill out all the material on the inside nearly as well as the tubing is. You could also make an equal length manifold using a bunch of 90's if you have the time. My kit im putting together currently has that HKS manifold. In the future i plan to try to make an equal length SS asuming i keep the car that long

i think im gonna try it since its no loss to me
im planning on boosting 8psi with a t25
make one like dezods. I have made many. CNC machining will take soooooo long. Use 1 1/4" butt weld pipe fittings. Get the 2 t's, cut them down on a lathe. Add a couple of elbows. Make a box colector out of 1/8 CR steel. Have them TIG welded together with 309 s/s filler wire and then make absolutely sure that there is a 1/16ish air gap in the fitment because the steel elbows will expand more than the stainless welds. If you don't do this the welds WILL crack. This will be by far the bestest way to do this. Have your dad make the flanges and cut the fittings. Pay a welder to put it together. You should be able to have this done for about $110 including the welding. Maybe less if you can find materials from other people/scrap bin.
