Question Adding oil before 1st oil change

I have a new 2005 Civic and I would like to know if there is chance that I will have to add some extra oil before the first scheduled oil change is up?

If so, should I just go to Autozone or whatever to get a quart of 5W-20 oil to top it off or should I bring it back to the dealer for them to add the oil? I want to make sure that whatever I do to the car does not void the warranty.....

Adding oil won't do anything unless you are burning oil and I highly doubt you are burning oil with a new car. Leave it alone, take it to the dealer and get your oil cahnged.

Most people tell me that a new car will tend to burn a little oil during the break-in period. I just got an RSX and it smells like burning oil in my garage for a few days...

yup. a brand new engine will burn off some oil.

you are just fine topping it off with whatever 5w20 from auto zone or wherever. don't change out the oil in there until about 5000 miles, as oil from the factory has several addatives and a higher moly count to help break in the engine.

if you want to get the same oil that honda uses, get mobil drive clean 5w20. that's actually what rebadged honda oil is.

wow, this sucks. my dealer told me to come in and get the first oil change at 2K miles. That was 3 years ago though... Do you think that might have damaged the engine?

Not necessarily, but it wasn't good for it either. Your dealer is a moron.
