How are the emissions/fuel usage like on Japanese Hondas?

How are the emissions/fuel usage like on Japanese Hondas?
Are the emissions over there greater or the same then over here?
Reason I'm asking this is because Japan has so many cooler cars then us over in the USA. An example is the AWD civic. Although I wouldn't own awdvic myself, it be cool to see how different the entire thing is then our cars over here.
