16" rims with 40 series tires and a 2" drop??

I have some 16" rims with 205/40/16 tires and when I put them on at stock height, it looked all weird. So now I am thinking about dropping the car 2" and then putting on the tire. Anyone have any input on this - good, bad, less drop, more drop, anything??

Well, with 16" rims, and 40 series profile tires, thats only about 2" diameter LESS than stock.
It's GOING to look weird, even with a 2" drop. If you want 40 profile tires you're going to need 17" rims. If you want the 16" rims, then you're going to need 55 profile tires, to get it near stock rolling diameter.

Its ok! If you can't decide what height you should get I recommend coil over spring

I agree with the second post, you need to have the same overall wheel diameter as the stock setup. Having it off by so much will affect the speedo and odometer significantly. Being smaller, you'll also be adding a lot more miles to your odometer than in reality.

Secondly, going to the smaller wheels will look odd in itself, you'll have much smaller wheels in general (i.e. that Toyoto Echo look... haha)

Recommended sizes for 16" rims are 205/50/16 (e.g. Prelude, Celica GT-S) or 205/55/16 (e.g. RSX, M-B C230 Sport Coupe, Impreza). Go to 17" rims if you want 40-series tires.

Exactly how many miles extra would be added to the odometer? because i am rolling on 205/40/16's too and the odometer thing worries me, those are the size tires that came with rims when they wear out i am going to get bigger tire but i don't want to waste the rubber for now....

I know what you mean, but the thing is I can't afford the new tires right now and the tires on the rims are perfectly fine so I don't wanna waste them. Think it would be ok for me to use those tires for about a year or so?

Use the Tire Calc feature on this web site and use the wheel revolutions per mile figure to determine how many more times your wheel is turning compared to the stock size. The speedo and odo are determined by wheel revolutions. Since you have a smaller wheel... then you'll be spinning more than the stock size.

Here take a look...

185/65/15 (stock EX size) = overall diameter 24.5", circumference = 76.9", revs/mile = 824
205/40/16 (your size) = overall diameter 22.5", circumference = 70.5", revs/mile = 898

So for every mile you're driving, your tires are spinning approximately +74 times. This is approximately 8.2% difference, therefore your currently registering about 108 mi on the odo for every 100 mi you actually drive.

A general rule-of-thumb is +/- 2%, this won't affect too greatly.

hey thanks for info man...my tires are fresh too so 8mi for every 100 i think i can go with that instead of forking out the cash right now but when i get it i think 225/50 maybe 45/16 will be nicer...after a small drop
