why are you gonna get a pyrometer? we dont need them for civics those are made for diesels. i cant think of anything that would make your engine run so hot that your Coolant Temp sensor wouldnt pick it up. So basically it doesnt make sense to do it

ACTUALLY, it makes great sense if its modded with a turbo/n2o. But im unsure of what a stock reading would be

If you're boosted then it's a good idea to get but if you're not then it's just stupid and kinda ricey. EGT's act as an a/f meter. The higher the exhaust temp. the leaner your engine is running.

In my opinion, I think they're better than the regular a/f ratio meters are used to seeing. It's more helpful b/c it gives you exact temperatures instead of just telling you if you're running too rich or too lean.

Not completely.

If an engine is running too rich, it will also run high EGT, as well as if your timing is retarded.

pnoyster2k1cvic is on a distinguished road
I have the Autometer Cobalt Pyrometer, and i'm ride's running rich right now and I installed the pyrometer about 24" away, ideal location is about or with in 6"-12" away from the exhaust manifold, mine reads around 700-800F, so I just add 3 more hundreds to compensate with the distance then that should be the estimated exhaust temp... overheating/melting melting temp should be around 1600F and above
