you have a leak somewhere. Usually indicated by a whinning noise. You need to locate the leak and repair it. could be in the steering rack, power steering pump, or the hoses.

If you arent mechanically inclined to work on your car then yes, but jack your car up and inspect everything. If it is a hose, just replace it. If it is the pump, you will need to replace it, or overhaul it, but easier to replace it. Same with the rack. Those might be cheaper to overhaul though.

Go to an independent shop. they will charge less.

You really don't need someone to tell you whether you need to take it to a mechanic. If you have a problem with your car, and you can't figure it out, it is very logical that a professional would do a better job. All everyone here can do is guess at your problem and suggest fixes. Ultimately, you still have to take care of it.

true but i guess my real question was should i take it to honda or try and find another shop? also what kind of shop? i looked at it when i parked and nothing seemed leaking from the resvoir on down so maybe its the pump which either way its gonna be expensive right? i was also just asking for tips on how to check what part of my car might be wrong

or you can just open your hood and take a light and look for the leak. Power steering fluid is easy to spot. No need for any leak detection crap.

did you even look to see where the leak is coming from? It could be as simple as a hose. I wouldnt use that stuff, just dont trust stuff like that. Get the problem fixed.

yea ive looked but tis not like i leave my car for an hour and see a puddle or its dripping out, just thought i would try a $5 dollar fix first then, if not it then take it in, is this not something that should be covered under warranty?

What you need to do is open your hood and take a flash light and examine all around your power steering pump and resovoir and then look at all the lines. Then get under your car and check the power steering rack. A small leak can cause fluid to gather around certain places and not drip, but still cause a lot of fluid loss. Depending on what type of warranty you have, will depend on if it is covered.
