After reading up on all the threads about people having vibrations at about 60 MPH and above and getting there tires rebalanced and what not, I am wondering what the main cause of this is?
Here is my dilema. When I hit about 50 MPH and above on the freeway, I get some shaking in the steering wheel. Basically like the tires are unbalanced. But at night time, there is no vibration. Only happens during the day. I dont understand it.
I have my alignments done about once a month and have my tires balanced once a month, and both were done about a week ago, and still the same thing. I dont think balancing is the issue because I have had them balanced 4 times in one week about 2 weeks ago and the problem was still there. My alignment is fine too.
I have narrowed it down to a few things it culd be. First I am thinking maybe the stock 15 inch rims have excessive runout. Next thought I was thinking are it is the tires I have. I have falken ze-512 tires in 185/65/15. But I am not sure. Does anyone else have vibration problems with these tires. And my last thought was the front and rear wheel bearings. I have a nasty vibration coming from the rear end which is felt threw the pedal when I brake from 50 MPH, and I think that might be coming from the wheel bearings in the rear. I checked the drums and shoes and they were both very new looking and it doesnt sound like a brake issue. Back last yr I had some minor flood damage to the engine, and my car sat in 2 feet of water for about 1 hour, so I know that probably had some impact on the bearings. The last car I had, had a different sound when the bearings went bad.
Well this is what I have narrowed it down too. Like I said, I just got an alignment and tires balanced once again and still no good. I even went back and they threw them back on the machine and all wheels came out evenly balanced. And my alignment is all within specs.
So the vibration in the steering wheel and the vibration in the rear end when braking felt threw the pedal are my only 2 concerns. If you can help me I would appreciate it.

If it is the tire, then get it rebalanced.
if the tires are okay, then you may want to check your CV joints. Many common vibration are caused by ripped CV joints.
If your wheel bearing is faulty, you should be able to hear a growling/grinding noise.
