EXACTLY what was happening to mine...one day about 2 weeks after this first started happening, i pulled out into traffic and it just revved like it had been bumped into neutral...i dropped it into 3rd, then 2nd, and then still nothing...and when i put it in Park, it made a $hitload of noise and then shut off...

well, it got towed to AAMCO, and they had to get me a new torque converter and all kinds of other $hit like that that i don't know what they are or do...

i took it for a test drive today, and it shifts better than it did when it was brand new, but it comes at a cost of $2795.88...so definitely go get it checked out before your car gets to that point...

My Mom's 2k1 started shifting hard at 25K. I had her take it for a fluid change, and it's still running smooth at 60k. Going to have a fluid change soon again, just in case.
These tranny's are pretty sensitive it seems.
