Did you guys get a chance to read the post on HondaTech by the guy who manufactures the locks. He says it reduces crumpling of the front end, he was mentioning something of air-bag delpoying at lower speed impact. I'm not sure whether he was defending against those point or whether he was mentioning them as a disclaimer.

he mentioned them as a disclaimer because it severly hampers the collision properties of the vehicle. reinforcing the areas designed to crumple first. so with that the impact is dispursed throught the chassis therefore deploying the air bags.

Does the car crumple for our safety, or would it be better if the car doesn't crumple.

The car is designed to crumple to absorb the impact rather then Transferring that energy to the occupants of the car = Lower car survivability and Higher Occupant survivability.
e.g., Your more likely to destroy the car in an accendent, but then you are also more likely to not be injured by that accendend.
