Low idle weirdness?

Last night I finally installed my EL glowing wire (only took five hours, until after midnight in my freezing garage, photos soon), but now I'm having this weird low idle problem.

Basically what happens is, if I put it in neutral, it drops to almost zero and shivers like it's about to stall, but then it usually hops back up to around 700. If I just sit there, it will stay around 700, but every time I rev it, it drops to almost zero and shivers before going back up again.

My major question is, Why? My secondary question is, Could this have something to do with my battery connection? It makes no difference whether my glow wire is on or off for this to happen, and the only other thing I changed was disconnecting and reconnecting the battery about 16 times during testing... Could it be a bad connection? The terminals are pretty gross, I'll tell you that.

Thanks for all your help, you folks are great.

Well, you really should clean the terminals just because it's good practice. Wish I could help you with the idle part...

Our cars are a little strange - my stereo wouldn't put out continuous sound because my dome light fuse was blown - go figure.

How exactly do you clean the terminals? There is a lot of grease on there, do I want to just use a steel brush or a cloth or what? It actually looks like it's half grease half dirt, it's pretty gross.
