Is it legal to patch a gas tank?? After my wreck a couple people complained about smelling gas on the inside of my car, I have bad allergies so I couldnt smell it. I took it to honda and they found that the people who fix my car after the wreck patched the gas tank instead of replacing it and the patching was comming off. Is that legal? I know that long term exposure to gas fumes increase your chance of getting cancer so should I get a lawyer?

I dont think anyone is going to know the answer to this. Just ask the dealership if it is legal or not.

Patching isn't necessarily Illegal...it is more of a safety matter. If they patched a hole that was 3 inches in diameter then that is unsafe. But it is was a small 1 milimeter punture then a patch would be more beneficial then replacing the whole tank.

Thats why if your ever in an accident ask for an extremely detailed work order. Find out what is going to be done, that way you can say "I was a new gas tank, I don;t care about the cost."

Call the dealer and find out, they would know the answer. In fact, call several dealers so you can get a proverbial "second opinion".
