Thinking of getting KYB AGX

I was thinking of getting the agx. At first I was going to get the tokico but then i saw these shocks and got me all confused. Im not sure what to get anymore. Should I spend about the extra 100 or whatever it is for these.

well what do you want aftermarket shocks for? Are you dropped, do you want better handling?

like streetglower said, first find out why you want the new shocks, then begin your search to fulfill those desires.

i got the KYB AGX about a few weeks ago, i wanted them cuase i was tired of the lean in turns and the clunk in the shock absorbancy, and i didnt like the bounce of the front end after going down a curb or going over a speed bump in grocery parking lots. And i wanted to retain the stock ride height. so with that said, let me tell you about my sperience.

I love these shocks, they perform great in turns to hold the car level, they retain the height of the car according to the spring. Actually i think the height of the car is maybe up to 1/4" taller with the shocks. The car does not bounce over speed bumps, whether the adjustment is set on 1, 2, 3, or 4. I have settled on my front setting of 3, and rear 2. When i set them to 1 it feels like a brand new OEM stock shock (remember that feeling the first day you drove home your civic?) I have not yet set them on 4, so maybe sometime later i will do that, my problem is i dont have a way to adjust the rears, i have a sedan so i will need to slice the trunk carpet to obtain access to the shock adjustment dial. it shouldnt be too visible so i should be ok.

If you want any pointers on installation, just let me know. i read all the diy's on this site for both front and rear replacements, plus i have done this type of work before on previously owned cars. so i spent about 16 hours to replace all 4 shocks by myself, this is just an estimate. I replaced the rears on a friday evening after work, then a week later i installed the fronts on a friday evening after work. And believe everything you hear about that lower driver side shock retaining bolt, its a bistch. I heated the bolt with a propane torch, drenched it in wd-40, and beat on it for a while, and i was actually able to unscrew it. But my wifes old 98 civic was a different story, i had to cut it off with a grinder.

You may not need a spring compressor to get your shocks/springs back together, if you have aftermarket springs that lower your height, and if so then you may be able to reassemble by hand with out a compressor. i needed a compressor so i drilled a 1" hole in my workbench then using my hydraulic jack i compressed the assembly up and the top of the shock came through the bench then i turned the nut on it. simple really. i got a pretty strong work bench made of 2x6.

So in summary, i recommend the KYB AGX, because they are good and they are adjustable. They are also gaurateed for life, and i cashed in on that offer when i had a truck with the KYB Gas-A-djust installed. If i knew anything about the tokico i would provide a comparison, so if anyone can provide a good comparison please post.

www.tirerack.com offers the AGX for the 2001 civic at $128 for each front, and $92 for each rear, so you can get a set for $440.00. I think this is a good price.

The reason I need new shocks is basically cuz my stock shocks suck and there pretty much blown. I was reading at clubrsx that the KYB doesnt fit right or something. They said something about the hole not being the right size. Can you plz help me out with that part thx.

Whoa, i dont know anything about a hole being off center or not the right size, all my bolts fit right in. If you hear more about this, like does it affect only the fronts or rears, and which bolt it is, i am curious to know. I do know that KYB took a LONG time to get these shocks on the market, i dont have particulars but i think they may even have been delayed from their original launch date by a year for additional testing. I am guessing that they worked out the alignment of the hole you are speaking about in that time period.
